My First #1, will scope fit?

I just bought my very first Ruger #1 after having the acquisition of one on my bucket list for 35 years. It was made in 1978 (the same as my M77 in 25-06 I bought brand new). My old/new to me #1 is a 1B chambered in 22-250 and has beautiful figured wood and is 99% and gorgeous to me. I don't know why I haven't checked off that list earlier. I bought a used scope yet to be delivered that is a Pre Monarch Nikon 4-12 x 50mm with Adjustable AO.

My question is will this scope fit my new rifle using the stock Ruger rings? Mine has the rib screwed to the medium contour barrel.

Anxious to shoot.

Like you, I tend to keep my eye pretty far back on the stock. I have experienced no difficulty in mounting different scopes to my 1A in 222 Rem, using the rings that came with the rifle. Here is a picture with a Zeiss Conquest 4.5-14X44mm side-focus. As you can see there is plenty of (move forward or to the rear) eye relief left:

for scopes with long eye relief check out the leupold scouts, If I remember right its like a crazy 6in... also the leupold vx3 1.5-5x20... I have the vortex pst 1-4x30 works amazing on my 375ruger plenty of eye relief and I like having a high quality scope with an illuminated reticle at my disposal without paying $1,000.. what do you plan on shooting and what ranges?

Actually Scout scopes have more like 9" of eye relief which might be too much for the No.1. I've threatened to try one for years but haven't done so, mainly because I'm not happy with any of the offerings from a manufacturer I'd trust (Leupold, Burris, Nikon). 2 3/4 is too low for my purposes and I just don't like variables.

Bushnell makes an Elite 6500 with a claimed 6" of eye relief which might be perfect, but did I mention that I just don't like variables?

RodeKing, if the scope doesn't have enough eye relief, I have a set of slightly used Leupold High Offset rings that I'd part with if you wish.

Well, the large objective 50mm end clears the barrel with about 1/8"s but you guys are right, enough eye relief @ 4 to 7x but on 12x, my neck doesn't stretch far enough and the scope is as far rearward as it will go. The scope is an absolute pristine Pre Monarch Gloss Finish Nikon and it seems every bit as good as any of my Leupolds. I am quite happy with its clarity. I will figure out how to post a photo and share. Thank all of you for your input, great to hear from you.

Yep, some folks have long enough necks that they can use "normal" scopes but Leupolds and ancient Weavers are best for a lot of us. I hear Conquests work well also, but haven't tried one myself. Offset rings will help you a lot if you don't mind the look of them.

Looks great.

After much real world research, I now use only three brands of scopes on my rifles. They are Leupold, Nikon and Zeiss. They are the best that I can afford. I used to be a Weaver guy. Then I bought my first Leupold and as a result I recently sold my last T-36. If I could keep only one scope, it would be either my Leupold 6.5-20X40 EFR or my 4.5-14X44 Zeiss Conquest. That would be a tough decision for sure.

Leupold, Burris and Nikon for me. I'm sure I'd love a Conquest also, but haven't looked at them. Terra's are getting mixed reviews so we'll see.

Old El Paso Weavers have a certain allure for me and the eye relief is huge, but reality is that the optics aren't even close to today's standards - even a M8 is much better. I have a K6 60B that I really liked on the 7x57 until the day I looked in the direction of the setting sun and everything went white. :( These days they set on guns for play, not for anything like serious business (define that as you wish).
