New Super Blackhawk....

I ordered a new Ruger Super Blackhawk Model #0814 today. The other revolver that was vying for my attention was the Magnum Research BFR 44. The BFR is obviously a beefier setup, but the rubber grips and funny looking front sight put me off. I can imagine that the optional micarta grips ($210) would go a along way in making the BFR look good, but the Ruger looks just right, out of the box.

Congratulations - you will enjoy it I'm sure. That's a nice looking revolver.

Welcome to the forum by the way. Is that you in your avatar photo? And if so are you stationed at Whiteman?

The avatar is a photo of the character Blackburn in the movie Black Hawk Down. I think it was filmed in Morocco.

Nice gun...

I will never get used to an SBH being 'other' than a 7.5" or 10.5" with the Dragoon grip...

Thank you for the warm welcome! I had a Ruger Single Six in my youth as well as a Mini 14. These days I have a GP100 TALO that seems to be lonely.

Welcome to the forum, yes the Ruger single action is a lot of fun and a-hem addictive, and if you find yourself entertaining thoughts of a Vaquero to go with that SBH, you know, casual cowboy style shooting, then you may be in the beginning of a long term love affair that makes us all part of a brotherhood...

You will like the Super..

I put some lighter colored grips on mine and like them a lot. The gun shoots great !

That choice is the most practical SBH belt pistol. I have a 5 and 1/2 incher which is OK too. The shorter barrels are just more portable.

A SS Rossi R92, like I have, makes a good companion piece. Simplifies ammo supply.
