While out taking care of fence and whatnot, I finally remembered to take a photograph. It's one of two alternating EDCs (other is a stainless 1911) so it's not prettied up... went from my holster to the post and back to my holster.

Great picture! That's a gun that belongs out checking the fences. It may not be "prettied up" but it's still pretty nonetheless.

Great looking birdshead, great photo. (I may be just a tad biased. I've got it's clone.)

Thanks for the kind words, fellas. I must say that I'm quite fond of this Vaquero. I've wished for many years that Ruger would make a shorty .45 ACP single action in stainless. Once the smaller New Vaquero frame size came out, my desire for this handgun caliber and size resurfaced. There is only one thing I would ever change about a line of these coming out of Ruger... that the frame and cylinder be cut down for the ACP cartridge length. I know it will probably never happen as the market is extremely small. Still, for me to want to change only one thing speaks to how perfect the sidearm is for my uses.

I think it was Waveform's early postings of his across multiple forums that drove my absolute need to own one as it warmed me up to the birdshead gripframe. I'd now say it's the most useful tool that I take along everyday and if I could own only one, this would be it.

Awards Showcase

Quiet 1, The "donor" Single-Six was made in 1979 but looked like an antique before dressing it up. 3-M pads on a buffer work miracles. Yes, I went through the gun and no doubt ... it's now better than when new. I must have placed the grip overlay picture slightly off center or the camera angle was bad. No metal was removed from the grip frame but there sure wasn't any extra wood on the lower front of the panels ... a snug fit.

Oops. {embarrassed} I just fact checked and it was apparently Erich's posts that initially hypnotized me. Your posts definitely fed the addiction as well though! Regardless, y'all showing and posting about these darlings hooked me and I'm glad.

I've written enough in a photo thread so I'm back to lurking from the fence lines. Carry on.

I had to come back for another look. Those are great.
JmE, I really like the composition of your picture.
Rugers are hardy & that's a fitting setting.

Almost bought one of these today on GB to convert into the .45 Ruger Special I have been dreaming up and talking about.

Almost!

Very nice JimE!

Dr. Marneaus will become famous soon enough
this thread has got me all excited.

Ever since I saw Waveform's birdshead Vaq back when He posted it in the pictures section I've been in love with the idea.

I'm currently in the process of picking up a old Vaquero in .357, case hardened frame. Practically new (24 logged shots). Hopefully it all goes well and in the next few days I'll have it!

I'm psyched.

I'm not going to lie, it was his early pics of his Talo .45acp vaq that got me all obsessed with a birds head too!

Now, as seen above, i have one of my own (well, not a talo .45acp, but a birds heads none the less)
