For the fixed sights, a base eats up much height. My vote goes for a dovetailed barrel.

If I can ask, why is the replacement needed?

One way to improve a Vaquero type front sight is to turn the shiney rounded top rear radius that is what is seen as the front sight into a little ramp, and serrate it with a checkering file. Squares up the sight picture and takes care of that nasty glare. Improves it more than you can imagine.

Been reading this forum for several months but just joined today. I saw in another forum where a person bought a Blackhawk from a person who had it bead blasted which gave it a matte finish. Would this prevent glare from the sun? The reason I ask is I have a Montado coming later this week and I really like the matte look instead of the polished stainless so I'm considering this to reduce glare.
