| my new/old .45c vaquero
Picked up a 5.5" SS old style Vaquero off Gunbroker. She has a VERY nice trigger and fast hammer, shoots about average for me compared to my 4 5/8th New Vaquero. The original owner did a little polishing on it and I did a little to clean off a few fine scratches and make it look better than new. Only problem is a cylinder pin that unlatches and pops forward when shot w/ standard loads. Cylinder locks up tight, no end play and feels solidly locked in until firing and jumping the release pin detent. I was planning to send it out to fix that and ream the cylinders to .4525", just wondering what could be causing the unlocking pin problem though in the meantime

I have two Old Vaqueros, one with a 5 1/2 inch barrel and one with a 7 1/2. I don't have the problem you do. The only problem I encountered was when I bought a pair of Red Stag Horn Grips on line for one of the guns. The hole in the rear of the grip did not match the pin on the gun's handle. I was lucky enough to be able to send it back, and found out the pin is not always in the same place. With the high price of good grips it's hard to find a 'deal' when you can't bring the gun in. But your problem sounds like it could be dangerous. I'm sure ruger will repair the problem, have you contacted them?

I shoot cowboy action with a pair of New Model Vaqueros in 45 Colt. I bought a spring tune up kit from Wolfe that had a reduced power trigger spring, reduced power hammer spring and an extra power base pin latch spring. The base pin spring will weaken over time and use. You can buy these springs individually, too. Here is a link to the page for the various Vaquero springs: Springs for RUGER SINGLE ACTION SERIES Revolvers
I don't know how the OM Vaquero's base spring latch is screwed together, but I had to fashion a tool to unscrew the latch in my two revolvers. I took a flat head screwdriver and ground a slot in the middle to take it apart and install the new spring.
I have never heard anything but good about Wolfe springs.

Thanks for the compliments, I guess with open carry in November I could try it but probably wont be taking the rig out more than around the ranch.
Goldtop, I'll give the Wolff springs a shot first. It doesnt look too hard to get apart.
