I love the feel of a single-action Colt or Ruger in my hand. It's comfortable, like sitting in your favorite Lazy-Boy recliner.
My single actions have always had very crisp triggers and I never have to guess at what condition the gun is in. It's so easy to softly drop the hammer if you change your mind for any reason.
Reloading can be fairly quickly done if you slip a new cartridge in as soon as you dump a spent shell.
I like my automatics but single action revolvers will always be on my "Want" list.

I like the style.
No worries about something catching on the trigger and pulling it. I want to shoot, pull hammer back, pull trigger. Bang, everytime.
But I am guessing it is one of those things that if you have to explain it...no one is going to understand anyway. That's not a mean shot (bad pun), just sayin.

I used to wonder why and then I got my Single Six. There's nothing quite like it. Now I see a Blackhawk convertable in my future.

Probably doesn't make sense to some, but I have always thought that the DA's were not as country as the SA's,. I just bought my second SA and never once considered buying a DA. I guess thats why they make both because my friends that shoot DA's can't understand why anyone would want a SA.

I use to think the same as the OP but I found my first single action one day in the local pawn shop and it was beautiful and cheap. I had not seen another like it ever (This gun lead me into handgun collecting) It was a blued Ruger vaquero 45lc with a birdshead & faux case colored frame. I bought it because it was gorgeous thats the only reason. I shot it because i bought it, I had to and through all the guns I have had, mostly s&w double action and semi autos, I have chased a stainless birdshead for two years. There is nothing like them. They are in a group by themselves entirely like double actions and semi autos are, I am much more accurate with a single action and there is a feeling that comes with carrying one that you know you can hit anything you throw lead at.
I say to the OP get one that you feel is beautiful and you will always own one.

Nostalgia. Plus, when you can get a friend that wants a Saiga 12 more than anything in the word to say,"Screw that Russian POS, I'm getting one of these." when letting him shoot your Blackhawk in .357, you can tell it's a good gun. Another friend wants one now too. He's a cowboy nut though so it was just a given.
Isn't there a man law against getting the same gun as your friends?? |

I have been shooting D/A handguns and 1911's for 40 plus years .About six years ago ago I broke down and bought a 45 colt Bisley vaquero and the hook was set. I kick myself for missing out on many years of enjoyment that only a single action can provide.
There is 6 or 8 in my current collection. They are as much fun as watching two fat girls fighting over the last twinkee |

For me, I carry a DA for protection for the reasons you mentioned. I like to shoot my SA for the reasons others mentioned.

Snake | I like the feel of a Blackhawk differently than my double actions.
When the blackhawk first came along the single action was dead. The double action could be single actioned or double.
But many things made it come back. I say buy many of both.
