Back in early 2004 (test fired Jan 04)I bought a 6 1/2" stainless S.S. I'm ashamed to say from the day I bought it it's never been fired or even cleaned. I was limited to places to shoot and when I had a place, I liked shooting my centerfires. I recently joined a range and plan on shooting my 22's often. The first time cleaning it I couldn't believe me eyes. I tried to take pictures but my camera doesn't do close ups. All I got were blurrs. When Ruger threaded the frame for the barrel apparently they ran the tap to far in. The underside of the top strap has these thread marks. They are actually pretty deep marks. It looks rough when the cylinder is removed. Being it's a 22/22mag I don't think I have a reason for concern that it's weaken the frame above the barrel. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking about contacting Ruger and /or Mr Fifer. About the only thing I can see they could do would be replace the gun.
Any thoughts? I wish I had pictures to show.

I'm thinking you bring it to the range next time and we shoot it until those thread marks are full of lead and powder
Seriously though call Ruger and see what they say. If they tell you to return it then I would. I would much rather have it fixed than to just live with it. As long as its at their expense. If they dont offer you a fix then like you said it probably wont effect the integrity of the frame being that its a 22.

I meant to bring it to the range the other day so you could see it and forgot. It's late today but tomorrow I'll call Ruger or drop Mr. Fifer an email. I pamper all my guns and this is unacceptable. Since it's 8 years old even though unfired I don't know what they will do if anything. It's definitely a manufactures defect. I’ve had email conversations with Mr. Fifer before and he was always very helpful. I think I'll email him first and see what he says.

I have read stories of Ruger doing work on much older guns than yours, and with many years of use, for free. Let us know what happens.

Late last night I sent Mr. Fifer via Ruger's Tell the CEO an email. I explained what I had found, told him when I bought it. How it's never been fired, bla, bla, bla. I asked if he would give me a shipping label since it was a Mfg defect and not something I had done. Anyway at 9:45 this morning I got a call from Gil at Ruger's NH's service dept.He was very cordial and told me they are sending a shipping label. He told me how they'd like it to be packed. UPS will be picking it up tomorrow. Gil said allot of the Single Sixes has marks from the drilling and taping of holes. If they are excessive they will REPLACE the gun.
For anyone thinking about calling Ruger the week of the 4th they will be shut down that entire week. Gil made sure I knew that.

I got my Single Six back today. They said those marks were normal from drilling the frame, The he said mine was one of the better ones. They did polish out the bigger ones. The smaller marks right above the barrel are still there. It looks 100% better then it did. I can live with it.

Glad to hear they responded and tok action, even though the issue was probably only cosmetic. They took care of you, the customer, and your concerns. That's what counts in customer service.

Its one of the reasons I have continued to buy Ruger products over the years and am still a satisfied customer.
