| Hunters....
When the first Single-Six Hunter came out years ago I knew this would be a winner for a small game/long range/survival packpack gun.... A friend bought one "used" but looked unfired along with a scope for a very decent price one day while we were shopping together. A few months later he got the hots for something else and knowing I wanted the gun gave me right of first refusal....it was definitely a good purchase....
I have not shot it much with the Long Rifle cylinder as the Magnum is just soooo accurate....but the LR isn't far behind....
Then there was the limited run of the Hunters in my favorite centerfire caliber... .41 Magnum.... Found a used one for a good price but it was a little scuffed and had no box or paperwork....but it shoots wonderfully and the scope interchanges without base adjustment between the two guns... I have not fired with the scope on it yet to see how much adjustment will need to be made.
Then yesterday I am in a large local shop and spot a...Bisley Hunter....LNIB for very cheap money...so that went on lay-a-way....
Anyone else enjoy Hunters???

What is the scope? I don't own the hunter model but I do have a SBH 7 1/2" that I bought in the early 80's. Had it D&T'ed and have a red dot mounted. Not particularily impressed with a red dot as it just covers too much of the target at 100 yds so really can't judge accuracy at that distance.
Those are fine looking revolvers.

It is a Leupold 4 Power Pistol Scope. They also come in 2 Power. This is one of the older friction adjustment scopes. One day when I can it will be upgraded to a new version that has click adjustments so when moving the scope from one gun to the other the adjustments can be made quickly and precisely.
Bushnell makes a great pistol scope also. It is 2-6 power and works great.
Except for Bullseye competition or plate/pin speed shooting I've never cared for red dot sights...

I have a Ruger Hunter in the 22-22mag series. It is my favorite rimfire with a very smooth trigger. I have a 2x Leopould on it. They have excellent sights with a dovetail rear and gold bead front. The scope can be removed easily . By far one of Rugers nicest revolvers.

I have one of the 45 Hunters and a 22 Hunter I Bisley-ized. have toyed with a .41 Hunter as i really like the cartridge but having a scoped BH in the same kinds make that redundant. Mine Hunter models are unstopped currently but one will find it's way to the 22 Hunter this summer hopefully. probably go with a Weaver as the one I just installed on the Competitor I really like.

Does anyone know if the gold bead front sight on the Single-Six Hunter can be replaced? While I like the gold bead front I don't care for the V notch rear for long distance shooting. Right now there is a OneRaggedHole rear peep blade and it works pretty well but would still just like to try a blade type front sight and square notch rear.

I better go order one today at my LGS before Ruger drops them from their line. It seems everytime I am ready to buy a certain model, Ruger has dropped it. I am mainly interested in setting one up in .22 WMR for some small varmint hunting out to 100 yards. Do they come box ready or what kind of tweaks will I need to do? I owned several SSS back in the late 60's and 70's and they came ready to shoot. Both had very slick and light trigger pulls. That was before the days of lawyers running gun companies. Another quick question: 2X or 4X on a scope? Thanks in advance for any information.

The only thing I ever do to my Ruger SAs in the PoorMansTriggerJob by dropping one of the trigger return spring legs off....
Other than that they are shooters right out of the box... Another few weeks and I'll pick up the Bisley .41 Hunter...

Also a SS Hunter owner, and love the gun. I use an Ultradot 25 on mine, and prefer the WMR cylinder. |

Found one of the Davidson's run .41 SBH Hunter at a LGS. Couldn't have been a happier camper. Love the .41 cal. Had a Burris 2x scope on it. I have been working up a hunting load for it as I plan on using it this season. Here in the hardwood forests of the Ozarks this gun may become my number 1 deer gun as 50 yards is a long shot. Absolutely love to shoot it. Sweeeeet!!!!
