Ruger Super Blackhawk in .45 Colt?

I was in one of my local gun shops recently and came upon a Ruger Super Blackhawk hunter in .45 Colt. It is stainless with a 7 1/2" barrel with original box and scope rings for $599. I was wondering what you guys thought of this configuration. I have posted before about the possibility of getting a Blackhawk in .45 Colt and never considered older configurations like this, I didn't think I would come across one. Does anyone one the forum have one? I reload and would love to tool around with another classic cartridge like the .45 Colt. Love my .357's! Thanks!

I don't own one but would love one someday when i can afford to dedicate a hangun just to hunting. I also don't think they are that old of a configuration either. The Hunter is a heck of a gun in either caliber, it is made to get pretty much all of the practical potential out of the fine old racecar .45 Colt. I can't think of a better gun to load for either.

Buy it. It is a special run commissioned by Lipseys. They also made some Bisleys. I have one. It's the only 45 Colt non-rollmarked unfluted cylinder Ruger ever put on a gun as well.

That was a really nice run, and makes a lot of sense as a hunting handgun. Lower muzzle pressure/less blast effect than a .44Mag, shooting heavier bullets.

It's very hard to kill any SBH, and very few guys have the time to shoot one out. If it looks low mileage, grab and go.

Bought mine in 2003 when the first batch was announced. Paid $489.00 plus shipping back then.

Nice gun.

Missed out a week ago

I just missed a for sale post on a local forum for a 45 Colt SBH Bisley Hunter for $425!

A buyer snapped it up within minutes.

Crapola!

45 Colt is a fun rnd ranging from easy shooting to what did I just shoot.
That super blackhawk should handle them all.

Howdy-
The .45 Blackhawk Hunter is still one of my buy it if I see a good one guns. Load and shoot considerable .45 Colt , even though .44 Mag passes the availability test ( the buy it nearly anywhere test ). Did knuckle under and buy stuff in .44 mag , too.
If that Hunter was in front of me locally- I'd buy it.

I have that configuration in .44 mag, stainless 7 1/2" barrel, and I really like it. I also have a Super Blackhawk, blued, 4 5/8" barrel, .45 Colt, and it is a bear to shoot with full bore 300gr SP bullets. Buy the Hunter and enjoy it. You may want to consider replacing the laminated stocks, as pretty as they are, with some rubber aftermarket ones.....Robin
