I was at the local shooting range today. After shooting I was looking at their selection of handguns. I saw a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in stainless 45 colt and 45 ACP in a flattop model. Does anyone out there know anything about this? It has a 5.5 inch barrel.
Thanks
It's a Lipsey's distributor special run. I have the same but with the 4 5/8 barrel and blued. I have had some problems with the blueing flaking off of mine so the stainless may be the way to go. Those are nice convertable revolvers. I'd get it.
Hey, Thanks for the reply. I almost pulled the trigger on it, but just getting back to work after a year of unemployment it just didn't work. I hope it will be there in a couple of weeks.
Well, that picture of the gun without the cylinder certainly looks like what would be called flaking. I believe you but I truly have never seen anything like that.
My revolvers are on the way back to ruger. No questions asked. They really do have the best customer service. It's comforting buying from a company that will stand behind their product. I have a lot of Ruger's and this is the first time I've had a problem. Thank you Ruger!
That second picture looks like a 'deposit' of maybe 'lead'/firing residue. Mine has that too in that area. Very hard to rub off. I get similar deposits on my cylinders as well. In fact, anymore, what doesn't come off with Hoppes #9 and rubbed with a patch stays on.
Soooo, my revolvers were all packaged up and ready for UPS when I saw your pics. I took them out just to be sure. A very light steel wool took all of it off. Even the one that looked like "flaking". I guess now that my tail is firmly between my legs I get to call ruger tomorrow and tell them of my idiocy. Thanks for posting that picture! This could have been a lot more embarrassing.
GENTLE rubbing with fine BRONZE wool will take it right off and not damage the blue underneath. Very common on revolvers.
