Looking for a nice older cowboy type holster for my new Ruger Vaquero Sheriff's Model 44 Spl. with the 3 3/4" barrel. Where should I start my hunt? Thanks

I have the older model Vaquero sheriff's model in 45 Colt and love it. I bought my belt and holster from the outfit below, Western and Wildlife Wonders. It is similar to but less expensive than most of the John Wayne type rigs. Belt and holsters are offered separately. I bought the one called the "Western Holster/Rough Out Money Belt Combination."

Take a look at ElPaso Saddlery. The threepersons holster cant be beat for a SA. The loop type holsters are great too. Link here: El Paso Saddlery - Holsters .

We also like Mernickle too. They are great to deal with. Link here: MERNICKLE HOLSTERS ..Be sure to check their "concealed carry extreme high rise for single actions. I think its a PS-6.

We have several El Paso and Mernickle holsters. I intend to order one of the PS-6's for a plowhandle vaquero sheriff ive been workin on after the first of the year.

I am planning on getting a Simply Rugged Holster for mine. I like the one I got for my .44Spec Bulldog, and another for my 5 1/2" Ruger SAs.

I picked up this holster at the Nations Gun Show in Northern VA from a local guy. It cost me only $25. He did not have anything for the 3 3/4", but when I tried a holster for a short bbl'ed Taurus Judge it fit like a glove. So I picked it up. Take a look at the pictures. If you are interested let me know and I will find the site for you.

Cheers,

Very nice guys and that is the direction I am heading as far as looks and style. May look for an original older one before buying new, but good to know there are places that make quality holsters. Thanks again and keep them coming!

I had my cowboy style holster custom made by a local leather worker here in PA. I liked the El Paso #44 holster but I wanted a few changes. So he copied the design and made the custom changes I wanted too. I really like it. If you want to know the contact info for the maker, just PM me. He also made me a nice belt too.

Here it is with my Sheriffs Vaquero 44SPL

I would like to carry this gun more and I think a Mernickle PS6SA is in my future.
