White outline rear sight

Has anyone installed white outline sights on their Rugers? Does it make that much difference? My mind is still a Teenager but my eyes and body are on Social Security. I am wondering if the white outline will help with sight picture?

Helps me dramatically. I suffer from the same vision issues. Since my shooting is primarily range/recreational, my favorite setup is the white outline rear site with a fiber-optic front. That's my basic GP setup, and what I'm working on for my adjustable site SP.

Where did you get them? I do not see them in Rugers parts list.

Helps me alot. I also put a little whiteout on the front on the front sight. Not alot cause it looks bad, if your not careful. Thats also why I like the longer barrels on my guns. Jed

My Ruger blades had the outline stamped in, but not white. I filled the line as well as I could with white Testor's model paint. When it's about halfway dry, you give it a few gentle wipes with a naptha dampened rag. That leaves only the recessed paint, with nice crisp edges. Looks as good as factory, for over three years now. The white helps me a lot.

If you call the appropriate Ruger plant, Prescott or Newport, they can help you with factory blades. I think they're about $6 now.

I spoke with Ruger this AM, the gun tech. told me they do not make a WHITE outline for the Single Action firearms. They do have them for the Double Actions however. It has to do with the width of the Front Sight. (????????) The sight on a Single Action is wider (or vice versa) than the Double Action and the front sight fills the rear sight notch differently and affects the overall sight picture. Other than that they are interchangeable. I am gonna' give up shootin' and take up drinkin'. I have Testors in black, but I guess that won't work, huh.

I did the same thing on my SS SBH. I also painted the ramp on the front blade with their hunter orange. What an improvement. I do have to touch up the front blade maybe once or twice a year, but it's well worth it.

Cheers,

I have shot with white outline rear for over 30 years and they helped even when my eyes were good. They especially help now.

I have a Bowen steel rear sight and I really like it they are the best that I have used. Millet sights may make them but I'm not sure I have one of those on a BFR revolver and it works to but it is quite a bit bigger than the Bowen and I don't think it looks as nice.
