United States Arms Riverhead NY 357 Abilene?

My grandfather god bless his soul left me a beautiful single action 357. Ive found some info about it such as only being produced for a short time in the 70s under the United States arms name which was bought out by mossburg and changed to something sporting corp due to a lawsuit by ruger for using their transfer bar system. and from what ive heard it was produced to compete with the blackhawk Im hoping for some more info about the gun if anyone can help. thanks and Semper Fi.

I came very close to buying one of those in the 70's. I think I may have even lost a little sleep over them. A local shop had 3 of them and I think they were in .357 At the time I was wanting to move up to either a super bh or the 45 Convertable, cant remember just where in my history this occured. Those .357s where really beautiful and I wish I'd been able to buy one, but alas, with a young family you can do just so much.

There is a mention of them if you go to the 44spc vs 45 Colt thread and click on the link for Linebaugh, Disolving the Myth, Discovering the Legend. It's about .45 Colts, but I believe he mentions his wifes revolver which I think is the one that came after yours.

I was a little leary of the Company, since they were changing hands and there was that Ruger suit, but I should have bought it. Really a sweet SA.

I have an old 1981 copy of Bob Milek's Centerfire Revolvers that has a section on the US Arms Abilele by Mossberg, with some comments, parts diagram, dissasembly and tuning/troubleshooting tips. Only 3 pages, but it you'd like, send me a pm and I'll make a copy for you.

Does it look like this? I bought this about 6 months ago and it has the best bluing that I have seen on a revolver. Mine was made in 1975. You can go to [url=http://www.singleactions.com/url] Mr. Lee Martin has a great deal of info about the Abilenes.
