I'm not selling now, but I'm planning to sell this Non-converted Old Model 30 Carbine Blackhawk for a friend. It's a very early gun with the serial number 50-005xx. I obviously want to get the best price for my friend and am wondering if the scope will be decrease the selling price.
It is in very good shape with no bluing loss, but there are a couple nicks in the grip frame and the end of the ejector rod housing. The rear sight is MIA and the scope mount added a tapped hole in the frame in front of the rear sight. Any ideas on value and if it would be beneficial to find a new factory rear sight to return it to as close to factory as possible? Oh yeah, I removed the Ace trigger shoe already.

Thanks for your input

That one is very likely second-year production, 1969.

The current Red Eagle News Exchange lists a "collector condition" gun like that at $470, but with the extra hole in the top strap, the collector value is essentially nil.

I think I'd try to sell it with the 'scope in place, but have no idea how to price it. Perhaps you could do it with the option of with/without the 'scope, but you'd need to replace the original sight to help with that.

For what it's worth, these are interesting guns. Shame about the "extra hole".

JMHO, of course.

I have one just like it but don't recall the year of manufacture right now.

The probable reason that scope is on board is that the front sight is too low. I have both a OM and NM .30 Carbine and it is the same situation with both. The OM was brought to a gunsmith. He milled off the original front sight and put a Patridge front sight on...yea, ruined the collector value but at least now I can hit where the sights are. The NM is just the same.

For some reason almost all OM guns I have shot had front sights that were too low...The only thing I can think of is that Ruger used the same front sight when they transitioned from the Flat Top to the OM without bothering to check to see if the sights could still be adjusted for the POA/POI with the higher rear sight.

Nice looking gun....Bob

The scope and the drilling and tapping would be a deal breaker for me. Add the missing rear sight and it definitely turns into a keep-my-money-in-my-pocket situation.

I've never seen one sell for as little as $430 around here. Proof of that is cause I don't have one yet. I saw one priced at $700 at a gun show last month. It was in very good shape. I went back later for a second look and it was gone. The guy told me he took $675 for it cash. I had been going to offer him $600 for it.

Prices on them, and on any Old Model unconverted Ruger. may be less out in the midwest and western states, or even in the more rural areas of this state, but if they're in any kind of decent shape, they command premium prices around here.

My old model (1968 vintage) had been converted but I converted it back with the original parts..pics are before conversion back to original..it cost me $475 a couple of years ago...wouldn't take $550 for it now...I have the Weaver no drill mount for it ( the model # is 301..link is http://www.midwayusa.com/product/35...ase-ruger-blackhawk-super-blackhawk-301-gloss ) if I decide to scope it (probably will...eyes no good). Wonderful old guns...mine is like new and shoots great...big boom and a huge flash...great for reloading and just a hoot to shoot.

Ruger Blackhawk 30 Carb

Out here in Tucson Az. the 30 Carbine Blackhawk doesn't show up to often, but when they do they are in the $500 range. I would pull the scope off, get a rear sight assy. install a filler screw in the tapped hole and start with $500.----I have an interesting Blackhawk 30 Carb. with a 4 digit sn. without a prefix nr. such as 51-xxxx all of the info. I can find shows that they all had a prefix number. the sn.is 3xxx anybody know the answer ?

Welcome to the forum. No mystery - approximately 9,200 were made in 1968 before the prefix serial numbers started in 1969. The serial number range is 7 to 9295 with a gun numbered 13005 known as well. In 1969 the prefix of 50 (not 51) began and continued through the end of the old model in 1973.

I have a 4 digit with no prefix. I got it in a trade but put it at about $600 in value. Somebody would likely be interested as is. Those Bushnell Phantom scopes are gaining in price.

No collector value after being butchered by drilling the hole. But, they are good shooters.

The hole drilled in the backstrap KILLS it from a collectible standpoint, no matter the rarity, condition, serial, or the caliber. It is simply a shooter and should be priced as such.

Myself, I don't buy things based on it's collectability, could care less. I buy what I like and pay what I am willing to pay. Shooter grade "old models" can be found in the less than $350 range with relative ease........this one should be no different.

Just realized somebody dug this up from a LONG time ago............so never mind...........LOL!!!
