Grip Frame Question - XR3 vs. XR3-RED

Hello Ruger Aficionados,

I was doing some research and was curious if someone could elaborate what, if any, the difference is between these two grip frames. I understand that New Vaqueros are of the XR3 variety - I held a few at the local store this weekend and was definitely a fan. Are New Model Blackhawks on the XR3 frame as well, or are they on the XR3-RED frame? Are there any appreciable differences between the two?

Thank you,
Dan

One difference is the shape:

The drawing below shows the differences in Rugers three plow handle size grips pretty clearly. The main difference in Rugers new steel copy of the old XR3 grip frame is that the new one is only .437" in width whereas the originals and all Rugers other grip frames are .500" in width.

The new Blackhawk flattops have the new XR3 grip frames on them, but remember these are the flattop guns. The regular Blackhawks still have the XR3-RED style frames on them.

Hate to bring up an old post but: I have a 2012 Single 10 and a 2010 Single 6 I just bought used with the black grips which I hate. I used your 3" deal and they both fit the whole square so it looks like to me they are XR3-red. I had emailed Shopruger asking about new grips and they said my grip frames were not the same which is untrue as I swaped them out and they fit either revolver. Rutgers are very confusing as to grips to me and most makers seem to leave out the 22 revolvers like say Altamont. So does the Blackhawks and Vaquero grips fit the NM S6? I know this has been beat to death but I'm confused on which ones to order. Wish I could afford yours Cary, they are beautiful. Maybe next year after I save up some more "mad" money. Thanks

pic of my S6, S10 looks the very same.

Only marking I see is that H, wood panels from my S10 has XR carved in them the black rubber has nothing marked in it. Maybe larger pic than PM.

They are exactly the same. The situation is already confusing for many folks, Ruger does nothing but exacerbate it. If you call them, they should know exactly what guns have what grip frames. Sad when many shooters know more about their products than they do.

Thanks for the help guys, I now know both my grip frames are XR3-RED. And that the Blackhawk, Vaquero and S6/S10 all have the same grip frame.

Ruger has made it confusing for the average owner to order grips that fit in my opinion.

bwinters will become famous soon enough
I am one of the minority who finds the xr3-red far better and more comfortable than the xr3.
