Cute little thing followed me home............

Dropped by a local gunshop this morning. Wasn't looking for anything, just wanted to keep my face familiar at the local vendors of firearms. When, what to my eye should appear this little thang:

Yep. A little Ruger Bearcat. Now my .22 L.R. collection has grown.

Money buys guns, familiarity gets you some good deals at times. The Henry that I recently bought I got for $50 less than the listed price.

I don't call it my second home for nothing.

Bob, You got yourself a very nice little Super Bearcat. The S/N shows it was made in '73 .... just a year before they were discontinued. Supers are much better guns with the all steel frame, barrel, and cylinder .... accurate little buggers too!

Here's a little known fact about New Bearcats versus Old Model Bearcats .... the actions are identical. The only difference being a different hammer, trigger, and transfer bar. In fact a OM Super Bearcat modified with the transfer bar is identical to a New Bearcat in all respects.

I guess I have never tried haggling over a gun. I am just not into haggling.

Lucky for me I get around my area for my job, and cause I like to ride my bike, and just drive alot for personnel stuff. So I check places out.

I have yet to buy online, yet. But I doubt I could pay more than $50 more than Bud's.

I also realize it is good to frequent small place that close to home, so you have a place nearby. I do this for gas stations, grocery stores, hardware. But I just walk in, and buy.

Luckily in WI, you can buy and sell guns without the government. So alot of my shopping is in my underwear sitting in my recliner on Armslist. Like the mortgage commercial.
Having a connection at your guns shops means they will notify you when they get in an item they know you might be looking for. I've had calls telling me they have a good bargain on a Colt New Frontier, or a Three Screw Ruger Super Blackhawk. Or they have someone in the store looking for a gun I've been wanting to sell or trade. And I've had minor work done by my gunsmith at no charge by being a frequent buyer.

As to haggling, I've not really done that, but had the dealer knock off $50 to $100 without my even asking. I've had boxes of cartridges that some one didn't want given to me. Recently a widow left two boxes of .45 Colt cartridges, Winchester Cowboy loading, because she didn't want them around the house. Dealer called me and gave them to me. Friend of mine got a Remington pocket auto pistol, in .380 given to him for much the same reason.

Even if there is no transaction involved, just visiting with friends at the gun shop is rewarding in itself.

As to saying I can find an item cheaper elsewhere, I don't do that. And for the most part, I can't find an item cheaper, or even find the same item elsewhere.

You say these folks are not my friends. I say they are. We inquire about each other's families, health, financial problems. We care about each other.

Nor do I sit around the house in my underwear.
