Blackhawk Accuracy

What would you guys consider to be acceptable accuracy from a benchrested .44 Special Blackhawk (4 5/8 bbl) at 25 yards?

I'm in the process of trying to find the handload my Bisley likes the best and haven't been "blown away" with the results so far although a couple of loads do look promising. As always, I appreciate any and all responses.

Hmmm. A lot of variables involved. Ideally, I would like all my handguns to shoot to 1" at 50-yards. At 25-yards, I get 3-shot cloverleafs, but there are always the two others that don't want to cooperate. I have come to the conclusion that many of my guns out shoot me.

I cannot speak for the .44 caliber but .45 LC SA Vaquero I would consider a grouping of six of 1 1/2-- 2" spread to be ideal. @ 25 yds.

The industry accuracy standard for "match grade" handguns is a 1" (or better) 5 shot group from a bench rest at 25 yards. Field grade is 2.5" (or better), under the same conditions. Ruger revolvers are considered "field grade" so any time you shoot a group under 2.5", accuracy is acceptable.

In a Ruger revolver with proper throat diameters and the right ammo, you can often exceed expectations. Most revolvers will be more accurate with lead bullets than with jacketed but that assumes the bullets are the right hardness, the cylinder throats are optimum, and the ammo is loaded to match grade. With factory ammo (jacketed bullets) I've found most Ruger revolvers will group under 2" .... some better, a few worse. The 45 Cals are the worst because Ruger often ships them with very tight throats ... even too tight for jacketed bullets. Don't expect match grade accuracy with cheap ammo, even if the revolver is set up perfect.

Very interesting info. I guess I'm doing OK with my Bisley as I have a couple of loads that shoot under 2" (just barely, but still under 2") from a 25 yard benchrest. Sure appreciate you guys taking the time to respond. Thanks!
