Blackhawk vs Vaquero cylinder

I suspect this has been asked before, but my search-foo is weak tonight.

Are the cylinders on a Blackhawk and Vaquero interchangeable? I can't think of any reason they'd be different, I read somewhere that the sights are the primary difference between the two models, but just remembering that I read something somewhere doesn't make me confident enough to risk the internals being off enough to screw up the timing or something.

I have a NM Blackhawk convertible .45Colt/.45acp and a Bisley Vaquero .45Colt. I prefer shooting the Vaquero, maybe it's the Bisley grip or the extra 3/4" barrel, but it costs a bit more and I have stacks of .45acp just laying around.

Yeah, I know, one is blued and one stainless and it might look odd, but so do I so that's not a problem.

Thanks

wyzardd - revolver cylinders are "match fit" to their respective frame. It is unlikely that a cylinder that was fitted by the factory gunsmith for your NMBH convertible revolver would fit properly in your Bisley Vaquero. It is possible that it would fit properly, but unlikely. If you want to shoot .45ACP in your Vaquero, I recommend you call Ruger and check on a new .45ACP cylinder that the factory would fit and install in your Vaquero.

New Model Blackhawk and Original large frame Vaquero (not the smaller New Vaqueros) cylinders are the same and can be fitted to the other gun. I have a 45/45 convertible Blackhawk and a Vaquero in 45 colt and looked into have the 45 acp cylinder fi tto the Vaquero and talked to one of the better known Ruger gunsmiths and he said it can be done.

I decided not to do it, because some other folks told me that trying to site in a fixed sight gun for two different calibers can be difficult.

As for asking Ruger to fit a 45 acp cylinder to your Vaquero, I can say that as of 2 months ago, they told me "no" since the Vaquero was never offered as a convertible, they won't do it.

I have two "orginal large frame Vaqueros" and a SBH and the cylinders will interchange without a problem. I have never shot them with switched cylinders, but the timing is the same. As two of them are .44mag. and one is a .45 Colt it would be asking for trouble if the calibers got mixed up.
