Pachmayr presentation grips for Blackhawks

Thinking about installing this grip on my SS .357 Blackhawk. The factory grips are getting a little ratty from the years of use (1976 model). Likes and gripes with these grips?

Well, you'll get a lot of negative responses, no doubt (Goodyears, ugly, etc) but from my corner they are the "cats meow".

My .44 Lipsey Special is a near wonderful revolver. Adequate power for most things, the exact right size, good adjustable sights, and excellent accuracy. However, the grips just did not work for me. I want a place to put my little finger where it belongs and that is NOT curled under the butt.

So, enter the Pachmayr grips. They will take a beating without showing any damage, they are truly comfortable with heavy loads and fit me to a "T":

Thanks Dale. Like you I'm looking for comfort and control, and still looks good.

BTW, good looking Blackhawk. I'm a big fan of the .44 special and have a S&W Triple Lock and a 1950 Target in that cartridge.

MikeyB;
The .44 Special is indeed a very useful cartridge. I have a Smith Model 24 (6½" barrel), both a 4" and a 6½" Model 624, and a Cimarron Single Action Colt clone in .44 Special with 4 3/4" barrel in addition to the .44 Lipsey Special.

I cast my own bullets and my "standard" load is the old Skeeter load (actually was shooting it before Skeeter started writing) a 250 gr Keith bullet ahead of 7.5 grs of Unique. I am now using a MiHec clone of the H&G #503 (an "authentic" Keith SWC) in both solid and hollow point form.

I also have and shoot several different .44 Magnums with the same bullet. All of my deer have been taken with .44 Magnums and 250 gr Keith bullets except the last one which was taken with the Lee C430-310- GC RF bullet. They all have Pachmayr grips, also.

I don't like them because I prefer the "feel" of the Blackhawk with the original grip design in wood.

If you like them, our opinion doesn't really matter . . . right?

Would you marry an UGLY woman just because she can cook?

Nope. But neither would I marry a pretty woman just because she is pretty.

My wife of fifty two years, to be factual, was pretty AND she could (and does) cook like a pro and sew like a pro. She also has a high IQ.

I hit the jackpot (and thank the Lord every day, I do).

Aesthetics aside I want a grip that's comfortable and functional in all types of weather. I carry this pistol while hunting and beating through the bush, don't need a nice expensive grip for that.

If I owned a Vaquero now that would be a different story.

As I've said before, it takes less than 30 seconds to remove one little screw and put on a nice looking set of grips after getting back from grundging around the forest.

It's not that hard to have the best of both worlds. No law says your gun has to stay ugly.

Installed the Pachmayr's today. Wow, feels good and finally my pinkie finger has a rest. Should have done it years ago.

There is another whole group of shooters that belong to the "Form Follows Function Group".

This is the group that uses the gun with no problem just as it was designed to be used. I'm talking about the plow handle grip designed by Sam Colt.

It's been around for quite a while. Must be some reason it's survived.....ya think?

LOVE em (and no longer made for SAA)

I have them on my Model 29 Smith, .41 Mag BH, John Gallagher .41 SP SAA Clone (see the S&W sights?), and USFA Rodeo SAA. MUCH easier to shoot well.

When I wanted to get some for my new Rodeo, i discovered that pachy no longer makes em for the Colt/SAA clones. Had to find NOS on Ebay (not hard, but get em while you can).

I could give a rat's butt how they look..

Somehow, I never could figure out what made them "Presentation" grips. Are you supposed to put them on a nice engraved and wood cased gun to improve it's appearance?

I sure do like those S&W sights on your single action. A couple of days ago I bought a LNIB USFA .45 Colt (5½"). I only shot it a bit (limited time available) but it appears it isn't shooting to the sights. I will regulate it but the sights are similar to first generation Colts (that is to say, they suck, big time) and a good sight picture is a must with my failing eyesight. Maybe that is what I should do with my USFA...

Hello Dale, KEEP SHOOTING the USFA, it is probably NOT the sights but the way you are holding the pistol. I could have sworn on a BIG stack of Bibles that mine was shooting way left until it went on a ransom rest and laser-site arrangement. ooops.. dead on at 20 yards. They actually regulate the USFA's at the factory pretty well.

In fact, not only was the USFA on target it was EXTREMELY accurate. One big blot with only one round 1/2 inch outside the one inch blot.. not kidding.

weird thing is that NOW, post trip to gunsmith and Ransom Rest embarassment, it is shooting exactly where I am aiming. My brain finally figured out what was going on. It was a BIG lesson learned for me. At least have two or three other folks shoot yours first. In fact, try finger-point shooting. DON'T AIM, just point the thing at a bottle cap or something and pull the trigger.. betcha it hits awful close!

The USFA now has at least 600 rounds through it and still looks new, yeah, as in not even a turn mark. very sweet pistola..

recent range session basic load..(before I found the Pachy "ugly" grips!)..

I have a pair for my 7 1/2" SBH, and think they are ugly as sin....but I love them. I usually put them on when I am serious about shooting, like during hunting season. I can't stand to look at them the rest of the year.

I too have often wondered why the hell they called them "Presentation"????

I also have one of the Lipsey special Ruger 44 spec. Blackhawk. Due to very large hands I have been searching for a set of Pachmayr rubber grips with no luck on finding the correct grips. The set i did get has the screw too far forward and hits the hammer mainspring in the grip frame. I noticed your set has the grip screw more to the center of the grip. What is the model number of the grips on your blackhawk and where did you get them.
