I found the checkering on the grips to be somewhat painful when shooting 240 grain Speer Gold Dot. I don't have pictures to prove it, but I was able to shoot a 2 inch group unsupported at 7 yards. The Buffalo Bore 255 Grain Keith in 44 Special shoots nicely out of it. Tamer than 44 mag but still packs some punch.

You know how skeptical we are without pictures I have some Gold Dot Hunting factory loads that are stout out of my 7.5" Redhawk. I wouldn't want to shoot them out of a birdshead. Ouch! I'm betting muzzle blast was "noticeable" from the short barrel too. I'm thinking those heavy Buffalo Bore .44Spl loads might be just right. I'm glad that you are enjoying your new single action. Have fun!

Just a quick update. I'm finding the more I handle this gun the more I like it. The birds head frame fits me well and the gun points very naturally. It seems the birds head also handles recoil fairly well because it drops down straighter that the plow handle frames, similar to the Bisley.

Very much my experience, too, Shark. Actually found it hard to put it down and stop shooting. Not something I can say about every 44 mag.

Very fine looking piece, and I don't even care for bird's heads. And by the looks of that target you may be harmless, but only by choice.
