Ruger Sheriff's Special 45 Colt

I just found and bought a Sheriff's Special Vaquero. It's allegedly unfired and that appears to be true but you never really know for sure. Came with the original box, manual, etc.

Yes, I did clean it already (friendly reference to another thread).

Bonk - it looks great! Problem, though, and I hope you received a discount: it's upside down ...

Bought it local from Armslist. It had been on there for several weeks and I had my eye on it. Even though it's a Sheriff's Special it wasn't really advertised as such which is why it flew under the radar. I didn't realize what it really was until I started looking at it a little closer. The guy I bought it from knew what he had but he wasn't trying to squeeze every last nickel out of it. He knew what he needed and didn't budge much but he did come down a couple of bucks. In all fairness what he was asking was very reasonable and fair.

I've posted lots of pics on here before without problem. For some reason I can't get this one the right side up. After it loads click it again and it should show right side up. Weird.

I believe those were the original large-framed Vaqueros with 3 3/4" barrels and plow handle grip frames. The original Vaqueros came with case-colored frames and blued barrels and cylinders. I think they look great, and one would be a perfect mate for my birdshead .45lc in the same configuration.

The Sheriff's Specials were a limited distributor run made for Talo. It's an original (large frame) Vaquero made in 1999-2000. It has a 3.75" barrel and it's chambered in 45 Colt. They're slightly collectable but they aren't anything super rare or super special (no pun intended). Depending on who you talk to you'll get various answers as to how many they made. Wikipedia says they made 500 blue (actually CCH) and 500 stainless. Other sources say they made a total of 1800+. There's also a 44spl version that I don't know a whole lot about. They also made a special order batch for the San Diego County Sheriff's department of 1500(I think) but almost all of those are in the hands of current or former SDSD officers and the guns are labeled San Diego Sheriff's Department. It was in honor of their 100th anniversary. This is the gist of what the Sheriff's Specials are but I may be slightly off on a fact or two. YMMV.

It is the Australian model - it is right side up when you are on that side of the globe.
