Ruger Sheriff's Special 45 Colt

This is a discussion on Ruger Sheriff's Special 45 Colt within the Ruger Single Action forums, part of the Pistol & Revolver Forum category; Nice find. I love the 3.75" SAs but have been more of a birdshead guy myself. I do like the look of the Sheriff's models ...

Nice find. I love the 3.75" SAs but have been more of a birdshead guy myself. I do like the look of the Sheriff's models though. I don't know why Ruger doesn't do more with the Sheriff's and Birdshead models. Like in 357 Magnum for instance. Please.

You probably know this but just in case - the case color finish isn't true CCH it's ink covered in a clear coat. Not that it makes it less attractive but you do have to be a little more cautious as some common gun cleaning solvents have been known to damage the clear coat and once the underlying ink gets exposed it too can be "cleaned" away if you're not careful. Apparently Ruger's investment cast alloy does not take traditional case coloring and this was Ruger's way of offering something traditional along those lines. (Turnbull has developed a proprietary method that produces a case colored Ruger frame but I don't know what their process is). Problems with the faux CCH finish caused Ruger to drop the finish after a few years and there's a standing free rebluing available to anyone who wants one for their CCH finished Vaquero. A few years back I had a couple of CCH Vaqueros and didn't have any issues with the finish but then I didn't shoot them much either which meant I didn't clean them much. I can speak from personal experience that the finish holds up well sitting inside a gun safe.....

As for your photo issue (appears upside down on my end in the thumbnail but right side up if I click on it) you could use a host service like Flickr, Photobucket, etc. and have the photo appear in full size in your post with no issues. I've migrated over to SmugMug now and like it but they all do the same thing. Just an idea.

Had one of those myself until I traded it off for an older AMT.
