I only wish I could be there to try out first hand one vs the other
Good luck

Great project idea, Wave! I'm gonna follow this thread 'cause I really WANT TO see pics of the flame (dragon's breath) when you shoot it!

If you reload your .30 Carbine like you would a .357 Mag., you get the same results ... same report, same flash.

I use the same powder (Hodgdon H110) plus hard cast (BHN 22) 115 and 125 gr, gas checked bullets. And of course, 110 gr, plated Berry's bullets.

BTW,
.30 Carbine case length: 1.290".
.357 Mag case length: 1.290".

BTW, more controversial on my part is that I use the same CCI 450 small rifle mag primers with both the .30 Carbine and .357 Mag.

It's what the doctor orders for the .30 Carbine, not so for the .357 Mag.

I've never had any problems.

I admit my mouth dropped open when I saw the cut pic of the barrel, but I couldn't look away.

I've seen a few 30 cal blackhawks and never had much interest, but your post makes me wonder if I could find one cheap and make it a project piece.....

As wave will tell you and a few others on here, the blackhawk 30 carbine is a fun little flame thrower. Its the perfect companion to the m1 carbine which most guys including me have as well. You won't be dissappointed, unless you run out of ammo.

Not if you hand load your own rounds like you would a .357 Mag.

Hmm, that sounds like words that come out of my mouth, problem is they don't sink into the depths of my brain.

Thanks for the positive comments - glad nobody came right out and called me an idiot (yet). Those folks were polite enough not to comment I guess.

I didn't get much done on it this week - crazy busy week with some travel thrown in but I did get a start on the grip frame fitting. Hopefully get that done soon and the ERH screwed in place and pretty soon it will be the front sight attachment holding me up. Really wanting to silver solder it but I don't have the torch for it. Might let a local smith do that, we'll see. If all goes well I hope to have it ready to light up at the range in a couple weeks, time permitting. I'll post up some more photos once I have something worth showing.

I had some time this afternoon to get a little more done on Smaug - drilled and tapped for the screw to mount the ERH and trimmed the ER and spring down to fit the shorter housing. To get maximum ER throw I decided to modify the existing base pin by trimmiing it back to the shoulder and cutting a ring around it so you could get a thumb nail in it to start sliding it out. Has a kinda of a nail head base pin look. I'm trying to stick with parts I had on hand and reusing what was already on the gun where I can. I still have some more fitting work to do on the grip frame and I need to decide what I'm going to do with the front sight. But it's progress. A few photos....

(Sorry if this is turning into a project monologue. I'll try to keep it interesting if I can.)
