I was just surfing Ruger's website, and I now see that they are listing the .44 Special as a catalog item. Maybe they were surprised by the fast sales of the ones that Lipsey's had, and decided to run with it. Lipsey's is expecting another shipment from Ruger, and I am on the waiting list. I just wish they had the wood grips, not the hard rubber ones. http://www.ruger.com/products/newMod...ed/models.html |

Since the .44 Special is now a catalog item, I believe the Lipsey run is a Bisley configuration. They are also doing a run of stainless Flattops in .44 Special and I have already got my order in. |

Wow, those grips are beautiful! How much did they set you back? Did you have to send the guns to them? I really have to get those crappy plastic black ones off my Lipsey's 44. |

The pair were about $88 He does not need the grip frame to make you a set. Bob |

Here is mine with bear paws on 'em : Vaquero with new Bear Paw Grips I like the style, but remember your hand(s) may be different as these are thinner on the bottom and a bit fatter at the top. Makes (for me) a more consistent hold. Here is his store : http://stores.ebay.com/Bearpaw-Ruger-Grip-Store Last edited by rclark; 02-01-2010 at 02:31 PM. |

Dropped son-in-law off at DFW this AM and made a loop through Dallas before returning home. Stopped in at one of the better gun pusher's place with a desire for a stainless Single Six dual cylinder .22. Struck out there BUT he had a stainless flat top .44 Special 4 5/8 that needed to come home with me. I didn't know they were available. I generally avoid first editions as they tend to be a little pricey-but life is short and I am not getting any younger. Fit and finish seem pretty good and the trigger needs to loose some of the -as usual. Also, it cries for some nice bone grip panels. FYI, Jack

I called Ruger a while back and inquired about the NVB-444 and they told me they were a regular production item and would be shipping them to distributor's that ordered them. I'm patiently waiting for mine. The local distributor is supposed to have at least one ordered and my gun dealer is supposed to get the first one in. We'll see.Ken |

I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't start shipping within the next couple of months. After letting the orders pile up, produce enough to fill the orders, then estimate what they will need for stock until the next production run. Realistically, they will sell more of these than the .30 carbine, and those have been in production since the '60's, hopefully this will also help out with the ammo situation for the non handloaders out there. Now there will be two affordable .44 spc's on the market, the Blackhawk and the Bulldog. But that model 21 shure is nice tho..

I've got a Lipset's, 4 5/8".....it is my best shooting handgun. I kind of like the black plastic grips. Ugly, but they fit my hand well.

I purchased the 5 1/2 inch in that I like the look and balance of that particular barrel length. I have a 50th Anniversary 357 with the 4 5/8" and two 50th Anniversary 44 mags, so the 5 1/2 will be nice in that it also be different. I have a strong admiration for the 44 Special, and the fact that Ruger chose to catalog it was a dream come true. And, the fact that they made it with a flattop, steel frame, old style micro sights, and the first series SAA style grip frame, makes it nearly perfect in my opinion. If only it was a three screw........ah, well, you can't have it all! I recall when many sent their 357 mags to gunsmiths and had them re-chambered and barreled for the 44 special. Skeeter Skelton was an advocate of this, as were others, and the final product was reportedly a good one. However, I am very pleased I have one now without going thru that process. I am writing this primarily to advise those on a list for purchase that they are in fact being shipped. The dealer, who has a Lipsey from the first run, told me that Lipsey was expecting another run, but with a Bisley grip frame and rosewood grips. I was able to see a picture only. He did not know how many were to be provided to Lipsey, but guessed that they would not be in abundance in that the Bisley is not as popular or even known by the general public. He did not mention anything about a stainless version, but he may not have knowledge of that. Anyway, I am happy to be registered in the forum and am looking forward to learning from all of you knowledgeable members. I have been on the Smith and Wesson Forum for some time now, and have gained considerable information on Smiths that I own and wish I had......I expect to gain that same knowledge about Rugers here and am looking forward to it.

Jimmymac46, I appreciate the update on the 5232. I've had one ordered for over a month with local dealers and made several calls to Ruger. They tell me maybe some in March? Glad you got yours. I continue to anxiously await my 5232. I did find a S&W 696 on Gunbroker which I'm supposed to be getting tomorrow. So at least I will have one .44 Special. Ken |

This is not 1930. Ruger's grips are black plastic, not hard rubber.

I just saw the Lispey's Bisley Flattop Blackhawk .44 Special with the 4 5/8" barrel and I WANT IT!! It won't be a safe queen though--I know it's a limited run gun but I shoot what I buy-lovingly of course |

Well I tried to order the Bisley Flattop from a FFL who deals in Lipsey guns and he was told they are out of stock for at least a week or two I hope that doesn't really mean they are out for a month or more-or worse done with the run. The sales rep at Lipseys told my FFL that they would be getting more and that particular model was a Lipsey exclusive. I ordered some ammo from Cabelas a few months ago and still don't have that was only supposed to be on a 2 to 3 week backorder and thats why I'm a little concerned.
