Here are the newest family members. A BH Bisley 45colt (0447) and a BH Bisley 44special (5235). They were in layaway jail. The 44sp was an impulse at $509, 3 payments over 90 days. Nobody I shoot with has a 44sp, so seemed like the thing to do. Looking forward to trying them out this weekend, time and weather permitting of course. (Not much fun at an indoor range with dew points in the mid 70's).
Those are gorgeous revolvers. Ruger big-bore single actions can be expensive to feed, but they are a joy to shoot. Congratulations, and we want pictures with the range report!
The 44 Special is not the same as the 45 Blackhawk, since the 44 is not just a "Blackhawk", it's a "Flat Top Blackhawk".
Besides the frame size difference, if you didn't know already or haven't noticed yet, the difference will become apparent when loading and unloading them.
The Flat Top may just spoil you, especially if you've owned any old model Rugers.
Yes. This is my first flattop. Have many other Ruger revolvers, just not in 44spl. Not too many choices in 44spl from Ruger. For me, the Vaquero models don't have the appeal of the BH's. That may change over time, who knows. It was just one of those deals that the more you look for one, it seemed that very, very few dealers had them in stock. They may make another "batch" at some point, but for now it looks like the hot selling models take preference.
I truly enjoy checking out your picture of your Bisleys they look very impressive. Unfortunately, I have never fired a Bisley model before. Single Actions are so fun!!!
Hey Marshal Ruger. I have 1 BH 357/9mm conv model. Its pretty easy on the hand, but I really notice the bisley difference when I do shoot one. Thats my
opinion. Its seems to be a love/hate issue with some people. If you get the opportunity to hold one or fire one, that will be your deciding factor. Ron
I've never shot a Bisley but have had a hankering to try one out. I do own two .45 Colt New Vaquero's in blue (4 5/8 and 5.5 inch). They both shoot fine.
Does the Bisley grip frame really tame the recoil as is often stated?
Two of my favorite cartridges! Enjoy your Bisleys.
The Bisely frame does not 'tame' recoil. The recoil is still there whatever frame you use. What it does do is force more of the recoil back into the palm of the hand, making heavy loads a bit more manageable. For .45 Colt and .44 Special the Bisley frame is just personal preference as recoil is really negligible (for me anyway).
