I just got a Blackhawk made in 1978 and it has a straight square type support on the rear tigger guard and the grip frame is steel. I've seen some of these in aluminum or alloy. When I look thru Gunbroker I don't see hardly any with this type of trigger guard. What is the history/story of this variation if any?
The square back (Dragoon) grip frames are shipped only on Super Blackhawks on model having a 6 1/2" barrel or longer. Not difficult to swap them to other models and a fairly common thing to see grip frames swapped. This is what I'd say occurred to this one you've just gotten.
Yes thats it. So the regular Blackhawk never came with that style trigger guard? Which gun did Ruger put the Aluminum grip frame on with that trigger guard?
Ruger never made that trigger guard in aluminum. If its aluminum, its not Ruger. Ruger only offered that in blue or stainless steel, and early on, in brass.
