The cut/recess that the loading gate inserts into must be cut to deeply/sloppy and when the gate is closed the notch at the top of the gate and the notch in the frame do not line up correctly causing the gate to pein the frame.
Hey I had virtually the same issue with a bisley 3.75 sent it in and it was back in a week and a half, fixed with no issues, I wasn't to upset and I understand they are pumping out tons of product, but I did wonder how the test fire person didn't notice? Cuz I noticed it the very first time I opened and closed the gate
Jmancuso I replied to the PM, but after decided to check it out, where the pen is pointing in the pic is where the problem was, the notch where the gate meets the frame kind of overlapped if you will, preventing the gate from fully closing unless I pushed the gate foreward, I have checked all my singles and there is play enough in all of them to push the gate slightly foreward.
With that said I'm thinking the fix was probly just a little better fit and finish maybe a little material removal, however I can't see any grinding marks or anything like that so if that's the fix they did a nice job
And did I mention this this is a gas to shoot, here is a pic I posted a couple weeks ago we were messin around with a bunch of half used boxes of ammo that had been lyin around and got down to a box of old UMC 180 gr JKTD soft point that produced this fire ring
Dad45, thank you for replying to my messages. That is the same location my problem was happening. I do not know what ruger is going to do as the frame is damaged now and there is no easy fix for a damaged frame. I wish I would have realized it earlier but I never had that problem before on a single action. I did not realize it could happen.
That is a awesome picture you have of that fire ring.
The loading gate shaft is a little undersize allowing it to cock a bit when closing. They'll likely replace the gate, grind and polish it to fit which at the same time will remove the damaged area. the cyl will likely stick out a little more past the recoil shield. But they all vary somewhat, including the left side compared to the right side.
I hope however the problem is remedied it does not look unsightly. It was peined pretty bad. Kind of kicking my self for not noticing it earlier but I just close the loading never thought to pay attention to how it was closing. I only noticed it when it raised a burr large enough to stop it from closing all the way.
OH NO! I did not send it back with the grips on it. I actually sent it back with no grips at all. Ruger was nice enough to put another set of grips on it for me.
