New to me 20 ga red label

Just picked this up at a local pawn shop. Been lusting for one for years. 1999 production. Only came with the two tubes in the barrels, mod and imp c. Will be watching auction sights for the other choke tubes. Patterns very nicely. Should be able to bust some clay pigeons tomorrow. Very few birds around here cause of the drought. Hopefully will get out to hunt before the season is over. Going to be a dove and quail gun mostly. Sold my old model 12 to my brother after buying this.

PICS!

Very nice!
I'm sure that you will not regret the choice. A 20 ga. O/U is an ideal upland bird gun.
And those are the tubes I would pick for most hunts, maybe add a full for open field hunts where a longer second shot is likely.

Thanks.

Looking for a full and maybe a pair of skeet tubes. Will try skeet first as I have not shot shotguns in competition.

Any body have opinions on choke tubes? I'm guessing any invector plus tube will work.

In theory, IC is just a tad tighter than skeet, but I doubt you'd notice any difference shooting birds between the two. Besides, the only way to know for sure how your gun patterns is to shoot it. IC/M has always been my favorite choke combo in a SS or OU.

Just like ijustdontknow said, "Beautiful". I've owned a few Red Label's over the many years I've shot skeet (my dream gun was an older version of 12 ga with fixed chokes at skeet/skeet) Apparently they made a few of them, but only a few. Skeet shooters seemed to think that they were too heavy, but not I. You also have a beautiful straight stock model. Like I've always wanted but never could seem to acquire. Good luck with your new gun, in the field, in the range, and with your choke tube acquisition. You could check with Ruger?, But I'm thinking they're probably out so maybe Brownells could help you out? Smithy.

There is an older 12 ga fixed choke skt/skt red label where I bought this. 26 inch barrels with the red pad. I could check and help set up a dealer transfer if you are interested. Can't remember what they wanted but I think about $900.

Unfortunately, the invector plus choke tubes fit only Browning shotguns, and some Winchesters. Ruger uses a different thread. Fortunately however you can still order 20ga. Ruger tubes directly from the Ruger website. They run $50 each. I like you choice of one ful and two skeet to fill out your choke selection, which would give you the complete five choke set that came originally when the gun was sold new.

That is an excellent deal and well worth the price jimdgreat1, but unfortunately my diabetic complications and health condition presently prevent me from being able to hold up a long arm (thus my collection of short barreled handguns) to get off a shot. It first affected me when I was shooting cowboy action in SASS. I'd get 100% with my pistols and usually 30-50% at best with my long arms towards the end of my SASS shooting. I'd love to have that gun, but my target shooting and bird hunting days have long since passed. Thanks for your thoughts about me and the gun, but I'll have to pass right now. Smithy.

These guys generally have the best price on factory parts. They're $50 each in the Ruger catalog, somewhat cheaper here:
