Shoot Metlhed57, If you picked up an Old Army and a Red Label (oh yes I forgot the Gold Label as well) You'd have the entire Ruger catalog in your safe. Smithy.

hmmm.... and where might one do such a thing, without breaking the bank? (i've been calling around out here at regular stores and pawns and i can't find a red label for love nor money. IF/WHEN i do, price will be a deciding factor)

There is an older 12 ga fixed choke skt/skt red label where I bought this. 26 inch barrels with the red pad. I could check and help set up a dealer transfer if you are interested. Can't remember what they wanted but I think about $900.
Maybe you could contact him to follow up if that's in your price range? Smithy.

Fine shotgun, should get years of good use there.

I looked at both before picking the 20 ga. Really wanted a 20 and the removable chokes. Plus the 20 was cheaper than the 12. The fixed skeet choked 12 ga is tempting. They also had a beautiful 28 inch barreled 28 ga. Of course it is closer to $1200. I have a few extra M1 garands. Almost thought about taking one to trade for the 12 ga but then stopped that thought. Still a bigger garand fan than anything else.

I feel your pain. They're scarce as heck in our area and when you do find one, it won't come cheap. I think a lot of Red Label owners have decided to hang on to their Red Labels with a passion, now that they have been discontinued.

Oh, you got it bad. That straight grip RL sure is cute, though.

Technically the Woodside is in the Red Label family along with the 20 gauge in my sig. What I really would love is this Woodside:

7578 Ruger Factory Engraved Wood Side 12 Ga. O/U : Over Under Shotguns at GunBroker.com

They seem to think they're sitting on a gold mine though. They've listed it for at least 2 years now. I think the pics of it are faded on my monitor. Gorgeous lumber(Davidson's special order) on that thing.

Jim - great find on a great shotgun! I do love the English stock on the smaller bores -20 & 28 ga. You will be happy with that one for the rest of your life.

Metlhed57 - the standard Woodside is a special gun in it's own right and I would be delighted with one like yours.

Arg0naut22 - Hehehehehehe.........

I am. It is the best shotgun I've ever owned. I can still drool on that other one. The fact that only 6 were ever created like that one(28'th edition "Blue Book of Gun Values"page 1669) just adds to the salivation factor.

I checked the link you posted and it is a spectacular piece. It is a lot of money but maybe not in the rarified air of high-end shotguns. A lot for a Red Label though. My next RL is going to be an English stock 28 ga. - if I can find the right one at the right price. Then a Woodside and maybe someday a Gold Label. I'm always one gun away from happy......
