Mossberg Maverick O/U Tactical

Mossberg Maverick O/U Tactical,
Maverick Over & Under Shotgun ,been thinking of one of these at my local GS ,there a pretty cool little O/U shotgun...they look like a lot of fun and there pretty well built,i have a good selection of other shottys from o/u Mirokus to Ithaca 37 and Winchester pumps and a Tactical Mossberg 930 for Zombie day so its more a "just for fun" shotty...any thoughts or experiences with these Gentlemen.

18.5 inch barrel
Barrel selector safety
Single extractor bar
Synthetic furniture
Hi vis front sight / Rear sight is also a picatinny rail
Under barrel front tactical rail
3 inch chamber
Both barrels fixed choke. 1/4.

I've read up on those...I would be interested in getting one myself! Nice and simple 12 GA without many moving parts!

18.5" barrel and no receiver length like a bolt, pump or auto! Sounds short to me and easy to handle. Only two shots though.

Personally I think it's hideous. I just am one that sees all this "tactical" stuff and quite silly on most applications. Paint it black add a clothesline, errr pick-a-tinny rail, and taadaa - its "tactical". :roll eyes: Like the Mossburg "tactical lever gun, it's taken a rather nice classic style and completely destroyed it. Just my opinion.

For the most part i agree with you they are a little ugly and i am not that much of a "tacticool guy",the attraction of this shotty would have been length ,being an over and under with 18.5 " barrels means its still a good 7-8" shorter than my 18.5 " Mossberg 930 and is equipped with 1/4 chokes(imp cyl),thus making a very very short swingable little shotty, perfect for brush or HD applications if i want "looks" i would pick up my High grade Miroku /Browning O/U ,my High grade Winchester 1300 or my Ithaca m37 DeerSlayer.

I can understand why people are turned away by the whole tacticool idea. it does get overblown sometimes . but with the wide selection of standardized sights and optics available today that sight rail is damned appealing to trifocaled eyes. afterall you can't hit what you can't see.

I tend to agree with ya but then again, this thing has an odd appeal to it.
Something very basic about it kinda like a hammer or baseball bat. A very simple tool but I could still do without the tommy tactical rails.

Gotta have a place for the laser sight so you can shoot from the hip

I have a Maverick 88 "Security". It's ok, you get what you pay for...or in this case don't pay for. It's "almost" a Mossberg 500 (my Security model that is).

IMO that O/U "tactical" jobbie is 100% inspired by Call of Duty. There's a "tactical" Winchester 1887 in that game. Complete with rails and all. If it's mainly for fun, go for it. I for one wouldn't refuse to shoot it. Not something I would personally spend money on though.

I agree ...IMO it looks like a 'solution' waiting for a 'problem'. I honestly see no reason or need for something like this.

The Maverick was a great buy when Academy was running them for $129 with a free locking aluminum double gun case (reg $69 IIRC). Now with them selling for $199 there is no way in HADES I'd touch one ....considering I have several Remington 870s and haven't paid over $185 for any of them.

If you've ever watched the video on the comparison between an 870 and an O/U shotgun...in the long run, with a competent loader, the O/U gets more shots off than the 870 because the 870 takes so long to reload after you've emptied the tubular magazine! The O/U just cruises through the reload cycle.
