| My first 9mm outing
I picked up my brand new SR9 today, and what a blast. Shot 150 rounds today, and about that many with our 357 blackhawk. I can see its going to cost a fortune to shoot this SR9 enough to get proficient with it. I wonder what cost difference will be by shooting reloads ? Good idea or bad idea ?
Thanks for all the responses to my intro post
Tony

try buying ammo at your local wal mart or at a cabellas when they have a deal on it is my advice and i shoot my ruger p95 in 9mm all the time at the range i go trhough probably 200-250 rounds every range trip which on average is once a week and i have found buying ammo at these places seems to be most affordable

Heres my post from another thread:
Current pricing for 250 Berrys 115gr RN, about $14.5 to $15.9, per 100 rounds going from minimal amount of fast powder to close to max on slow powder
I just ordered 1000 115gr HBRN-Thick Plate and I can expect it to be from $13.2 to $14.5 per 100 rounds
If you went with 1000 normal 115gr RN you can expect $12.7 to $14 per 100 rounds
Compared to $21.30 for 100rnd at Walmart thats not bad! When I had Rem FMJs I was reloading for about $18 I think so no real savings there, I've been pretty happy with Berrys Plated.
Now that I just got 1000 158gr FP .38s, I can reload .357 mags using the max of Unique (7.7) for $16.8 per 100 rnds which would cost me $48 (Fed) to $56 (Rem) at Walmart!
These numbers are just the load, not counting cost of brass but I saved all my revolver and I have more friends buying 9mm so theres my source for those

I load a lot of 9mm, moreso to be able to taper the load to my needs than cost, but partcularly if you pick up brass, and reload lead you can cut the costs dramatically.
I think the last group I loaded I was averaging about a dime a round, cheapest I can find store bought 9mm now is $.18 a round plus shipping.
If I had to buy brass, and buy jacketed bullets the price rose dramataically, but was still less than commercial ammo. How much your time is worth needs to be figured in too.

When ever I goe to Wal-mart,I always pick up a value pack of either 9mm,380,or 357 magnum, you would be surprised how fast your ammo arsenal would grow,My defensive ammo i get at the LGS,still have Black Talons in the calibers.

I usually get it from $9.50 to $11.00 a box of 50. Sometimes Cabela's also has some good bulk pricing for 300 to 500 rnds in plastic ammo containers if that interests you also.
