Was down at my favorite LGS, and saw this Ruger. I know it had been there a while because I looked at it before. I don't recall what the previous price was, but it was less than pictured. I think they sky-jacked the price since the discontinuation.

Thats what I think. See the two on either side of the Red Label? They both have "sale" tags stapled to the price tag with a lower price. The Ruger did not.

Those prices remind me of when I bought my S&W 1076 back in 1994. I went and looked at one about a year earlier around the time I heard Smith was ending production of them. The LGS had them priced at 599, then all of a sudden they went to 749.

I went back in the fall of 1994 and they had them lower than 599. lmao. Needless to say, that's when I made my move. When I bought mine, it had 3 price tags stapled to the backside of the lower 1994 price. I still have them in the original box. lmao.

Someday I want a 20ga to go with my 12. Several years ago my wife gave me an English stocked 28" barreled RL and I love it. I like the longer barrel coupled with the shorter action that an O/U gives. Not as soft to shoot as some of the newer autos but much easier on my shoulder than the old 870.

Geesh, I got my Red Label 11 years ago at a private gun club sale BNIB with a Ruger "employee presentation walnut case" for 750 cash! Ruger was right here in Southport Ct at the time, I guess I better hold on to it! Not long ago I was offered a Browning Citori for it and though it may be worth more than my Red Label, I respectfully declined the offer!
Glad I did! (Already had a Citori in the safe anyway!)

Last year I bought a 10 y/o Miroku 9000 G3, it cost $1,500.
And that was a good price.....

I am thinking about buying a Ruger Red Label 12 gage O/U. It's new and the price is 1K. Do you think I should do it?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

If it's a new-in-box (NIB) RL with the chokes, tool and papers then I would say that's a pretty good deal. The only LGS around here that stocked RLs sold off their new-old-stock guns at around $1350 this year, which was getting pretty close to wholesale cost to the store. Remember, a new RL had an MSRP of nearly $2K so $1K is half that and well below dealer cost. Now that I think about it that's a smokin good deal on a brand new gun...
