I have a 20" Remington 870 ex-Georgia State Patrol gun. I bought it used for cheap and added a folding synthetic stock, extended mag and pistol forestock. It is a good HD shotgun, but it is an old gun now and Remington has changed.
Remington has been purchased by some conglomerate and some people are already talking about bean-counter changes being made to the company. I don't think I would buy a brand new 870 anymore. Maybe a Mossberg.
I would definitely buy a Ruger pump gun it is was offered. Ruger has the manufacturing capacity to offer pump guns in a lot of different configurations. If they kept the price to the same range as Mossberg and offered a good Ruger quality product, then I think they could kick Remington right out of the pump gun market in a few years. A Ruger autoloader would be nice too.

Good point. I have no pump, I would buy a Ruger. My first 22 the 22/45' my first rifle 10/22, my first concealed gun LCR, my first 1911, Ruger Sr1911, first hunting gun, American rifle, and first takedown the 10/22 td. I could use a 12 gauge.

I would love a Ruger pump shotgun! Which Ruger's new R&D team I wouldn't be suprised if they are working on one right now. A lot of innovation at the moment there at Ruger Headquarters. +1 for the new Takedown 10/22, that's on my short list.

If you go on rugers site there is a section that you can tell the CEO your thoughts requests & issues
the more people that request a type of gun the better chance you will see one
