Looking into finding out some information on the Ruger Red Label.
I've heard some negative things about this gun. Mainly that the gun lacks the quality of other guns of similar price. I'm assuming since Ruger discontinued it because it was not an extremely popular line because of these pricing issues.
Were there any other flaws about this gun? I haven't met anyone that has owned one, so I don't have any opinions to go off of.
I'm interested in buying one of these Reds, but would like to hear some opinions.
Let me know.
Hugo

I have a .12 gauge that I used alot this past season and liked it. However, I bought another, a .20 gauge from Gunbroker.com ($1000+/-) some 4 mos ago and put Kick-ease pad and just went to change the chokes and clean it and inspect it a lo and behold it won't snap on the snap caps (recock). It looks brand new. Now I have the delimma of taking to local gunsmith or sending back to Ruger. Did not know Ruger no longer makes these, disappointing. When did Ruger stop making these?

I'm the proud owner of 2 Red Label shotguns. I would never think of parting with either one. They both will go to my Grandkids when my time comes.

The Red Label is still offered on their website. They did discontinue their side-by-side, (name escapes me). I own an engraved 12 ga. and find the quality to be top notch. Like all of Ruger's offerings this is a quality arm at an affordable price. I would love another in 20 ga.
I would challenge anyone to find a comparable O/U from a top tier gun maker for anywhere near what a Red Label will cost you.
Clearly I'm a big fan.

I have been ogling the Red label for a while. I like the fact that it's available in an english stock. I have never met any one that has had an issue with their red label.

Well, I sent my Red Label .20 off to Ruger today (3/11/2011) after Ruger responded promptly to my e-mail seeking help. They also responded in the e-mail that they still make the Red Label and will continue to make it. I hope I get the repaired .20 back timely, I plan on bringing it to Bolivia for doves in June. Have been bringing Remington 1100's for last 5 years but the heat builds fast w/automatics. Poor ammo last year sealed it to switch from autos, tho.

Well here it is, 03/29/2011, and today I received my .20 Red Label back from SR that I sent to them on 03/11/2011- some 18 days total- NOT BAD at all!!!!!
Invoice (dtd 03/17/2011) says they repaired: 1. hook, 2. ejector sears and 3. ejector/springs/plungers. The invoice said it was repaired, safety checked and test fired. No charge. I need to test fire it now.
Earlier SR sent me the original box back empty and a post card telling me they recieved it. It was packed in another SR box for return.
I hope the .20 shoots as good as my .12 Red Label in the field.
I am a happy camper.

| Red label 20 gauge
I have a 20 ga. with 26" bbls. and love the gun.Use it for skeet and it makes for a very fast handing gun.I shoot unmounted.Would like to add 30" bbls. for sporting clays fun.The manual can be found at www.ruger.com/products/_manuals/redLabel.pdf |
