20 gauge with a 16 inch barrel a few years ago for (I think) around $250.

Probably the last one I'll ever get or need.

I was at my LGS today shooting the breeze...he had just taken a Western Field M150D bolt action .410 with full choke in on trade. He was looking it over when I walked in. It's in FAIR shape, has a couple little rust spots on it other than that it's in good mechanical condition. It pulled up so nice that it came home with me. Should be a fun gun. Paid $50 for it.

I am with you, the 870 is a tank, and not terribly expensive. I have literally seen one used as a boat paddle, then later used to hunt with, same day( not mine). I will always have a place for an 870 in my toy box.

I had a tristar pump, 18.5" with the spring assisted pump, it was very inexpensive, and worked without issue. I had a friend talk me out of it, but for the price it was a great shotgun.

I've got an old Marlin original goose gun that I picked for $149. What a long tight patterned beast, and a hoot to shoot.

"Like" or "really like"?

I guess you said "really like" so the answer is a Franchi Affinity 12 gauge auto loader. They go for about $650 to $799 depending upon stock material, which is about the best bargain out there right now for an auto 12 field gun. It patterns very well, is 110% reliable from light 1145fps trap loads to 3" magnum loads, has a great trigger, comes with a nice fiber optic bead, and points like a magic wand.

I'm fond of my cheaper guns but I sort of view them as "pickup truck guns". The 3.5" magnums are a blast (literally) but I'm yet to be convinced from my testing that they actually pattern with any more pellets on target than a good 3" chamber.

If I had to sell them all and only keep one, I'd keep the Franchi. Not much you can't do with a nice seven-pound, 28" barrel, autoloader 12. Works for anything from hunting to clay shooting games.

The Affinity is a great shotgun especially for the price. If I needed a new 12 ga. They would probably be what I ended up with. Basically a Benelli without the trimmings.

Basically a Benelli with a better trigger, and the recoil spring in a better location around the mag tube rather than in the stock.

My Marlin .410. I really like it! Haven't shot it, but it looks good! I need to shoot this thing!

Got a Stevens mod 85, 410 bolt action detachable magazine. Guy said it was broke. Looked at it and saw that it was missing one of the extractors. Paid him a few dollars for the gun. Took the remaining extractor out and made a mirror image of it out of a hardened nail. Matched the spring put it together. Also did a complete refinish on it (cold blue) and stock refinish. Showed it to the guy I got it from and he did not belive it was the same gun. That was 25 years ago. Have used it extensively ever since.

Remington Wingmaster 12 ga (now a dedicated turkey gun with a cantilever mount and scope). Really cheap shotguns never appealed to me.

My father gave me a 20 gauge Maverick pump a while back. For an inexpensive shotgun, it is pretty decent.

I occasionally hunt small game, but not enough to justify buying something expensive. I'm happy with it.

I added my Maverick to a very good Winchester 120 bird gun. I bought the Mav for $100, paid about $97 more for an 18.5" open barrel. Both barrels shoot just like you'd want them to. That pump action feeds very well. Always hits the target, and is completely versatile. I'd buy another Mossberg, if I ever had a need for one. I have come to appreciate how good shotguns really are. I'd bet that I would be just as happy with anybody's brand.
