Winchester 1300 shoots high

I bought a Winchester 1300 Defender, cylinder bore for $200. It's in good shape, feeds and ejects shells fine but it shoots high. Four inches high at 10 yards and another 4" high at 25 yards and 12" high out to 50 yards.

Obviously, i can just get a taller bead, but I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with these shotguns. It just seems wierd that it would shoot so far off.

I have the 1300 and the 1300 defender. I have never had a problem. Could it be the shot shell you are using?

I tried different shells. OO buck and slugs, Remington and Winchester.

How 'tight' are you holding the bead along the receiver top? Do you have the smooth top or groove top receiver? What loads (slugs, buckshot, birdshot: brand & weight) are you using? With Foster-style slugs, some guns shoot certain brands better than others. I installed Firesight day-glo tubular front beads on both my 1300 Defenders. You can hold a pretty tight bead and still see the sight.

Grove top receiver, bead snug to it. Have tried several different loads.

Thinking I will try a taller sight like the one you mention.

My 1300 is a dedicated deer shotgun and has a 20" rifled BBL and a scope mounted so apples to oranges. It shoots POA at 100 yards with Federal Premium 3" sabots. You can probably find a fiber optic front sight that will give you more height.
