Hello all-- I got my Ruger Red Lable 12ga. I have not had a chance to get some range time. I do have a question. Is there a way to disable the auto safety or do I have to send it back to Ruger? Has anyone taken their Ruger Red Label apart and done the auto safety mod? |

Ruger used to make the change from auto to manuel for $15. Not sure now what it is now. I believe that doing it your self of getting a smith to do it will void the warranty. For hunting only I would suggest leaving it as is. If you plan on doing a lot of skeet or trap you might want it changed. I have just learned to automaticlly ,being a right hand shooter of thumbing the safety to the right "off" when bring the gun upto fire. It now just a natural habit. jm2cw |

I should add that shoveing the saftey to the right and FORWARD at the same time takes it off and fires the bottom barrel first. |

I'm with Claybird, if you are using it as a field gun just leave as it is. If you intend to hunt clay pigeons then having it defeated is a pretty good idea. I had this done a couple of years ago and I did have to send my gun back to Ruger for the mods. Based on what I can see in the trigger group it is a pretty simple thing to do but you have to send it back to keep the warranty active. I ended up having to send mine back twice. When I got it back the first time it would not reliably fire the lower barrel. It worked fine for a hundred or so rounds with the bottom barrel selected to fire first then started having FTF's. I selected the top barrel to fire first and it worked flawlessly. I could have left it that way but since I use it to shoot registered Skeet it was worth the confidence factor to have it work both ways reliably. Dan |
