This is a discussion on Home Defense Shotguns within the Ruger Shotguns forums, part of the Rifle & Shotgun Forum category; I have a Remington Express 12ga., factory synthethic stock, 18" barrel, 7 round tube....
I ordered my new Synthetic Stock and Forend for my 870 Express Magnum last Thursday... I am going to stay with the Remington furniture, but I'll be adding the magazine extension soon... By the way, what does the sling attach to on the barrel, with the extended magazine?
Well here is my project gun, so far... I'll be ordering a Choate +3 Parkerized Extension in the next couple of weeks...
I have a Russain made double barrel 19 inches long. back up for that is a 870 20 gauage pump 18 inche barrel extention mag put a Hogue tamper pistol grip and fore arm on it. The gun was rough when I got it but its funcally sound. I loaded it with High brass 6's.
Nope I don't live in a wart zone but if one moves in on my I sure plan to lite them up. I like the short barrel and pistol grip for close quarters. And the 20 is easier to control recoil wise.
I have a Mossberg 500 12ga. 20inch bbl 8shot with ati topfolding stock police style forend and a bright *** light secured to the top with rubber o rings loaded to the brim with 00 buckshot man you dont even have to aim this thing at 3-4 yards its a 15-20in pattern with birdshot
I'm thinking of adding a Mossberg 500 Cruiser or Saiga 12 gauge in the future however. Probably the Saiga if I can find one though -- something about an AK 12 gauge with 10 round magazines I find quite appealing.

This is what I want to get, just looking at it I'm sure I can't get it in California
The pistol grip makes a nice compact piece but does anyone have and experience with accuracy. At close range any pattern won't open much so there still has to be a degree of accuracy. A laser sight would certainly be a useful aid.
The pistol grip came as part of a complete package that included an extra barrel. The pistol grip looks good, but for laying down effective firepower it is a joke. Go for a regular stock with an 18.5" barrel and you will be tactical enough to ward off all attackers and perpetrators.
The pistol grip makes the shotgun quite inaccurate. You must hit what you aim at to be effective even with a shotgun. The regular stock will help you to stabilize and aim.
Not to brag on myself but I am deadly accurate with a shotgun. That is with just a bead on the end of the barrel. If I see someone with a pistol grip on their shotgun I know they are at a disadvantage.
