This is my "House Gun". It's a Mossberg 500 "Combo". It came with the 28" Modified barrel shown, and with a 18" Cylinder barrel. It's got 3" chambers and I keep it close by with a magazine full of 3" OO Buck. Bill T.

Remington 870 Express Magnum 12ga 3" Magnum with 00 Buckshot and slugs. I never get home from work till 3am, usually just meet them at the door.

Here's my setup:

mossberg maverick, pretty sure the barrel is an 18.5", with a knoxx spec ops stock, heat shield, and ghost ring sights. Definitely helps you sleep at night

Ah yes, the 870. I was going to get a nice OD 870 with the 8-round mag, but I was too broke at the time so I had to settle for the maverick []

I think it was only 200 or so, but it's never jammed on me or given me any problems, so I like it. If it shoots when you need it to shoot then its OK in my book.

It's my understanding that the Maverick is quite sturdy. In what way(s) is it "different" from the Mossberg 500 series? Just curious...I see a lot of them around.

Do they make a .410?

You guys must live in a war zone. I find my 45 ACP Colt Commander will take care of my needs. I used to have a very nice Mod 37 Ithica that I customized for a tactical gun. It had a 18" barrel, extended magazine tube, ghost ring sights, and a composite stock. It would shoot slugs very well and also paterned good with #4 buckshot. After I got out of the tactical game, I sold the gun and haven't missed it a bit.

Different strokes for different folks-the same reasoning could be used to say you should have to downsize to a .22-cause who needs a .45---our responsibility to be prepared extends beyond our own hallway-we might even be given the opportunity to make a difference in our neighborhood-in uncertain times, how much is too much?? We ARE at war, with an enemy who may live next door or work with us or serve our food or deliver our bottled water---not if but WHEN they are given the word to act-I WILL be ready to fight-so will a lot of others who believe that we are at war and that it's OUR war. I "used to be" in law enforcement-I'm STILL part of America's fighting force-the O. F. Reserves!

Jody, the Maverick is a super-economy model of Mossberg-some work great and some don't-I'd bypass it for social purposes-had a few come through the pawn shop in bad shape-some places aren't good to cut corners in-you deserve the best. Save your pocket change faithfully for 6 mo. and you can get a quality shotgun that will protect your grandkids' kids!!

Sheepdog...

Gracias, Amigo...Didn't know much about the things and have no experience with them. Wasn't seriously lookin' at one BUT I've been known to be a sucker fer' 410's, so...I hadda ask. Thought Mossberg still makes one...NOT that I need another one...

Saw a Mossberg 500 with pistol grip and 18 or 20" barrel in .410 Friday at local gunshop-had to fondle it a bit-came real close to buying a Marlin Lever .410 last year-awesome lookin' gun-like a 336-they sold the only one they got in and it's discontinued...shoulda saved my small change earlier!
