hi guys-- been awhile. may have buggered my SxS

hi all. been some months since i signed in here. i've been so busy with the Land Rover 4x4 thing that my time has gotten eaten up by it.

now that it's winter, i'm getting back into shooting sports.

just bought a used, but in very good condition SxS. a fairly unusual one for tristar. it's 20 ga SxS made in spain for them by zabala hermanos. it's called the tristar brittany sport.

i haven't even taken it out yet, and i think i've buggered it up somehow.

i put snap caps in it tonight, and pulled the trigger for both barrels, went to open it to reset the trigger to try again for fun, and it didn't want to open. would open up a crack, but not properly and fully. sensing something was amiss, i closed it, tried again. same. closed it, tried again. tried to fire again in case it had reset, and couldn't fire either barrel, and can't open it. only way i can open it is to take the forend off and disassemble. trigger is like a car gearstick in neutral, regardless of whether it's on fire or safety now.

thoughts? it IS a sidelock SxS so i'm sure it has tiny springs and what not internally. did i break something?

I do not know what kind of striking surface your snap caps have, but it sounds like your firing pins are stuck in the rear of the snap caps and did not retract as they are supposed to do. This would result in not being able to open except for a slight amount.

yes! exactly! the pins are sticking out through the pinholes, and i can open the action maybe a quarter inch or less. i've disassembled it now, and the snapcaps are out, but i can't get the pins to release. trigger is not doing anything at the moment.

You may have missing or broken springs that supply the power to retract the firing pins. Could be something else also as I find it peculiar that both firing pins failed at the same time and they are controlled by separate side locks.
If this happen the very first time you tried dry firing, someone may have failed to disclose the problem to you. I would look for a gunsmith that is familiar with working on double sidelock shotguns.
