New Red Label Ejector Problems

I have shot over 1,000 rounds thru my new Red Label with only one problem... the shells will sometimes fall under the ejector on the bottom barrel, also with the slightest tap or push, they slide past the ejector. This is a huge problem for anyone shooting in trap competition, as the gun will not close, and panic will set in. Along with this, it will stop ejecting the spent shell out completely. Anyone else experienced this problem?

I just recently acquired a new Red Label. I've only got about 200 rounds through mine. The only weird thing I've noticed is that if I fire the bottom barrel alone, the shell ejects just fine. When I fire both barrels, if I don't pop the gun right open the bottom shell doesn't eject. Other than that, I really like the gun. The balance and fit are awesome.

Have had a Red Label with 900 rounds, will make the 1000 in June.

No issues have not experienced the ejector issue at all. Things have worked well for me. Hope the next 1000 rounds work the same.

Good luck, call Ruger Customer Service and I am sure they will be able to take care of a repair.

Ruger suggested I return the gun rather than replacing the ejector. Sent it off today, hopefully they will have a fast turn around and can fix the problem. From what I have read on this forum their customer service should be great, and so far so good, they are paying for shipping and all warranty work.

Repaired Red Label has arrived after only being gone for 21 days, 14 of which was shipping. Everything looks great, with the repair consisting of them replacing the barrels. So far I cant push the shell under the ejector. Hopefully I can get out soon and make sure it will eject everything smoothly. Thanks Ruger Customer Service!!!

That is not an uncommon issue with Red Labels. I have had it happen and have heard of other owners with similar issues. I never sent mine in but after it happened a couple of times I used extra caution in the loading process. I wrote it off to thinning heads on my reloaded shotshells at the time but realize now it is an issue. Just not sure I want a new BBL as this one fits me like it custom built.

How would replacing the barrels affect your fit? All the fit is in the stock, comb etc? Just wondering since I'm a new guy?

Angry

my experience with a new Red Label purchased in Aug.2014. Had a fail to fire on a trap shoot. Called Ruger -had to send it back on my dime ($33 via UPS! ) Got a quick turn around ( 7 days!) "new hammers, hammer strut springs, trigger link, locking bolt". Tried it out on a trap shoot- 25 rounds no problem, them at around 5th shot on second round got a fail to fire. Called Ruger, this time they sent a free FedEx return label (nice!). Again got it back in 7 days. this time "New ejector sears, ejectors ,springs , safety selector, safety selector toggle roller, hammer sears, left hammer (Again?), mid sight repair, repaired cartridge seat"
I'm really "gun shy at this point but will give it one final try. What else can go wrong? If it does I'm asking for a full refund since they cannot replace the gun!
I have multiple shotguns and the only other fail to fire happened when I dropped a Stevens 77sc in a salt water pothole while hunting ducks in a north easter!. It was my fault( 16 years old) as I failed to clean the gun properly. Once I did it worked and still works fine. Stevens 77sc retail $49.95 Ruger Red Label retail $1399. Go figure

Joe,

Sorry to hear you have had issues and lost confidence. I understand your position. I have a Red Label that I purchased in Dec 2013 and have over 1000 rounds and have not had issues, fingers crossed.

Good luck and I hope the third time is the charm.

new red label problems...continues

Hockeyislife ,

The Red Label is being returned for the third time! Lower barrel ejector is not working correctly (again) . When I break the gun & depress the ejector, it feels as if the ejector spring is hanging up or the ejector itself has become damaged. The ejector looks as if it either pushed slightly out of it channel or was installed improperly AND when the action is closed the ejector comes in contact with the side of the receiver. Just poor worksmanship. The gun just doesn't seem to handle being fired. I shoot trap & sporting clays and have never used any ammo other than target loads. I've completely lost confidence and complained to Ruger that the gun is a lemon and I wonder what's next, a complete failure again or even worse a blow back explosion which would be extremely dangerous to myself and others on the trap line. I will post the reply from Ruger. Makes you wonder if stopping the manufacture of the "new"Red Label was really a financial decision or they "discovered " a flaw in the design.

Smile

Just a note. I had the occasion to deal with Ruger customer service regarding a Red Label shotgun. I must say they were very considerate and handled the situation amicably.
They are a stand up corporation and I have no qualms whatsoever with the fine employees at Ruger. I would say that they totally stand behind their products .
I would thank all the guys & girls at customer service for all their help.

Sincerely

Cascade Joe
