Mini 14 and Steel Casing Ammo

I thought I read somewhere that it is ok to use this in the Mini 14 but yesterday a gun shop tells me no way - don't use it.
Mine runs it through just fine but thought I'd ask here as I trust people that use themmore than I do people who sell them.
Can I use it without harming my Mini 14 583 series?

Thanks for your help

I don't think it will harm your chamber, many people use it and it works fine. I have used steel case when I had an AKM. That being said, I will only shoot brass cased ammo in my Mini and AR. Softer is safer for your chamber. Also I am a reloader, so I have no use for steel cases that I can't reload.

If it goes bang, and comes close to where you are aiming, it must be okay.
However, please NOTE, some of the steel cased stuff is corrosive. It is still okay to use, but clean the gun within 2 days of shooting the stuff. I found that using Windex Vinegar window cleaner on the bolt face, and several swabs down the barrel will negate all the problems, and then just clean the entire gun with regular CLP, Hoppes, or what ever, just as you always do (or should). Be sure and remove, and clean all pistons.

I've asked this question on a couple different forums and find it amazing the wide range of different answers I get. Pros and cons for it.
I only buy new factory brands like Herters and Tul Ammo. Right now these are the only .223/5.56 ammo I can find that hasn't been severly price gouged.
Hopefully I'm not doing any damage to my 583 stainless Mini 14. I will say it likes it. Always feeds, extracts and consistant accuracy.
