Got my new stock

So I got my mini 14 on trade and immediately ordered my archangel stock. It arrived and I installed it this evening. So upon taking apart my old mini, the heat shield would not fit into my new archangel. It is a small flimsy piece of metal. Is this really necessary? Can I just leave it out?

LOL , I did Exact same thing~ Hated the factory Folder stock! I sold it on ebay for 125.00$ and bought my archangel for 179.00, LOVE this Stock! Added a Rail and Grip , Troy battle sights and a Red dot. The Heat shield not required but I was able to use mine. What's the issue with it not fitting?

Haha nice, looks like mine will hit ebay too :-) The heat shield has two screw holes in the bottom of it, but nowhere to attach it to the new stock, so weird. I just layed it in there at first but the damn thing just clangs around, sounds like crap.

How does the weight of the Arcangel compare to the Ruger Tactical stock(ATI)?

It is a little heavy because of the full length aluminum rail on the top. But it is definitely not uncomfortable. I like the handle way better, it feels more solid, and my magazines now have zero play in them.

I agree I think it changes the look a lot as well, I think this gives it a Remington ACR look at a fraction of the price I like the classic mini-14 look, but the tactical one just didnt do it for me. I am going to sell the old stock for $75.

Hey - I might be interested in your OEM stock - any way it can be modded to fit a first-gen Mini? I have an old wood-stocked carbine of 1976-vintage -any idea of me getting this one to fit? I'm good with a Dremel and JBWeld!

The factory stock you got in first picture (same as one I had ) While they shopped from the factory and even have the Ruger logo on them- they are Actually made by ATI and according to their website these stocks fit All Ruger Mini-14/Mini-Thirty with Serial Numbers 181 and Above. My mini is a 182 serial number- it was Mfg in December 2012

75$ is a STEAL...Sold mine on Ebay for 125.00 plus buyer paid shipping, of course that was several months ago and hype was little higher on everything...

I will post a picture of my Mini-14 with the archangel stock on it, Just bought another archangel stock- this one for my old Mosin Nagant 91/30, got it several weeks ago, turned it into a sniper beast lol ...I put a picture of it up in the other firearms Gallery. Cant say enough about Archangels Stocks!! Also I too LIKE the 1/2 pound More the AA Sparta stock adds to the Mini-14 weight and the top rail all the way through is great for mounting Iron sites/ scope. AS For the Heat Shield I remember now having to make some modifications, I took a drimmel and cut out around the factory pre-drilled holes in the stock. I added a rail on the bottom of stock for a grip and bolted the heat shield and rail through same holes.

Anyone think I will mess something up by not putting the heatshield on it?

Rongotti:

I would check with Ruger or someone more knowledgeable than me. If you are talking about the thin metal "liner" in the forearm, I do not know if it is just a heat shield. I believe that it is also the guide for the action rod when it slides back after firing. mine shows some polishing on the higher ribs after only 250 rounds and I lightly grease it.

Anyone know if this has another purpose?

Rongotti...

Obviously you know my vote- Use A shield. Problem is those ATI stocks we had have a specific shield for that ATI sock that's why its not lining up. what you need is a factory ruger heat shield (has tabs on the end) if you wont a exact fit solution without modifications. I choose to modify my ATI heat shield vs. order one and WAITING as they are kinda hard to come by of late. (I waited 2 months for the stock to get here lol ) But Sparks25 also Makes a good point... it in fact is not just a heat shield but also keeps the action rod within a certain tolerance as its firing. Here's my finished ...well its Never finished lol

Called tech-support, I didnt know that archangel was owned by promag. Talked to a nice guy, he agreed that the heatshield was needed for the guiderod, looks like I have to leave the mini out of my bag of goodies for my range day tomorrow :-(
