Mini 14 barrel stabilizer

Have seen several brands of barrel stabilizers, I have a new mini 14 with sn 580 78338, this should have the bigger barrel. Is there any advantage to installing one of these on this late model. Thanks.

I installed an Accu-Strut XDrill on my 582 series Ranch Rifle before I ever fired the gun, so I can't say if it helped with accuracy of my particular rifle. That said, I figured it couldn't hurt to stiffen things up a bit & also provide more surface area to bleed heat from the barrel; plus I like the look!

At the same time I also installed the Ultimak Scout rail, which replaces the upper-half of the gas block and has strap that attches to the underside of the barrel half way from the receiver to the gas-block. I had read several accounts where installation of this product was cited as improving accuracy in 581+ series as well. I mainly did it because it allows me to forward mount a red-dot (and eventually a LER Scope), but it also seems to help bleed heat from the barrel.

I've been very happy with the accuracy of my Mini so far, but haven't had a chance to shoot it at more than 30 yds (but I've gotten <1" groups with the irons @ that distance). I've just installed the interchangeable aperture system for the Tech-sight Mini200 rear, so I’ll be heading out soon to re-sight it and hopefully stretch it out to at least 100 yds, if not 200!

i put one on my 580 with a tapered barrel, and my groups tightened up, but i was doing several thing to improve accuracy at once, so i can't say for sure how much it helped.

the best benefit thus far, is the barrel stays MUCH cooler, and i don't have stringing from heating up anymore. i shoot good groups hot or cold.

i say YES, and go with accu-strut if you have stainless (perfect match). otherwise they are all the same, but i have a preference for accu-strut myself.

the accu-strut was the only MAJOR addition i made for accuarcy and my mini (if i do my part) will group 5 shot groups under 2" all day long with quality ammo.

Well, they do look kinda cool. I think the current Mini-14's are plenty accurate for their intended purpose, which is to be a handy auto-loading carbine that's easy to carry around, or throw in the back of the truck, and doesn't look as scary as an AR.

It ain't a target rifle, but it's plenty accurate for taking care of pests on your land, from coyotes to wild pigs, to rabbits, squirrels, ground hogs, prairie dogs, rabid dogs, the neighbor's cat... (just put that last one in to see if anyone was paying attention ).

Supposedly, the original Mini-14's had a slimmer barrel profile, and were reputed to lose accuracy when the barrels got hot from sustained shooting. I guess I sort of want to say, "so what?" I don't see how that really is a big deal as a practical matter. If you think it's likely that one day you will be out there with your local militia defending your town against attackers, laying down a sustained base of fire from magazine after magazine, you probably should have a different rifle any way.

Again, though, they do look nice (the Accu-struts), and some folks are putting them on new Mini-14's. I actually think they make them look more like a real M-14.

I have a 581 tactical with the newer contour barrel, and after hearing some of the stories bashing Mini-14 accuracy I was very pleased with mine. Most of my shooting is with the factory sights 50-100yd standing or off of a bi-pod. I would have see how it performs scoped, bench rested before I could consider if something like an AccuStrut would be a worthwhile investment.
