| Scope for my Mini 14 Ranch Rifle
Hi guys presently I have 3x9 40 scope on my Mini14 I am rehabbing from injuries sustained 2 years ago. As a pedestrian I was hit by a car! I have gone thru 8 surgeries gone from wheel chair to walking. I am not wanting sympathy but some ideas I have came back to riding my 4 wheeler & shooting my pistols. But after going thru 2 shoulder surgeries I want to shoot my mini 14 but I want a light weight scope preferably a 2-7x32. Today at Cabela's I looked at the Redfield Revolution 2-7x32 a leupold 2-7x32 as well the leupold was the lightest weight but carries about a $250.00 price tag. I would really appreciate your thoughts and ideas my mini has the wood stock. I would also consider a straight 4 power or a 1-4 power also have the same thoughts of a light weight scope for my Ruger 10/22 your ideas thoughts & comments would be much appreciated thanks!!

Where are you wanting the scope mounted? receiver? in a forward "scout" configuration? Need to know this first so we have an idea of eye relief.

| Scope for my mini 14
I just want the scope to be mounted in the spot over the receiver that the factory rings fit where it ie a ranch rifle. Like I earlier stated I have already looked at leupold , redfield & a Canela's brand all were 2-7x 28 or 32 the lightest of the bunch was the leupold then the Redfield. But leupold being the priciest. I would also consider a 1-4x32 I would like to keep the price down if possible. There is one scope to me that really stands out in clarity and features I will probably put this one on my 10/22. The new Weaver 2-7x28 but it's made for a .22 it has 1 inch tube but the parallax is set at 50 yards. It would definitely fit good on my stainless Mini14 Ranch rifle. But my question would the recoil & the 50 yard parallax be a issue. My main use with the ranch rifle will be occasional recreational shooting of milk jugs filled with colored water at about 100 yards.

My Redfield Revolution 2-7 has been a great scope. It is very clear and concise and the power ring is very smooth to adjust. I would buy another Redfield if I ever needed one.

Redfield is owned by leupold.. supposedly using a little lower quality glass and assembled in the phillipenes..
Is that a bad thing? Not enough to prevent me from buying a 3-9x 40mm for my mini 14.

I've been using a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5 (I think this is correct...it could be just 1.5-4) and its worked great. jmo. |

I have a Leupold AR scope on my Mini 14. I have the 3X9 scope but there is a 1X4 that may be just what you are looking for. I put a Weaver rimfire 2X8 on my 10-22 and have been very happy with it.

I can't seem to find the Simmons Pro Diamond Scope. My thoughts now are towards the Redfield Revolution 2-7 nice clear scope. But I keep wondering if I got the Weaver 2-7x28 scope thats made for a .22 how it would hold up? I can get this scope in a silver finish. The thing I keep wondering about is if the 50 yd parallax would be a issue? I have looked at this scope several times it's a very clear scope. Also without any hesitation I could install 1 on my Ruger 10/22 . I get tempted to buy 2 of them. One for my mini 14 & one for my 10/22 any thoughts?

This in no way means it will for sure, just that it is more likely in some cases.
The 50 yard parallax would really IMO, diminish the usefulness of the gun. If you can live with the gun zeroed at 50 yards, and you do your shooting at around that limit it might not be a bother, but a .223 is generally zeroed to 100+, at least they sure are in this house.

Benemorte I think you bring up a valid point. Thankyou but then after looking at the Simmons Prodiamond shot gun scope would I be in the same situation with a 50 yd parallax situation as well? Nice light weight scope in a power range I like but the parallax thing again! I know the 2-7x28 weaver will work fine on my 10/22 looks like maybe the Redfield 2-7 might be the one for my mini14 ! Sometime I wil get this figured out that Simmons Prodiamond is a sweet scope but for my use with my mini 14?? Any more thought welcomed!!

If you want to save weight why not put a plastic stock on in place of the wood? Wouldn't a Hogue be lighter than the wood?

That's a good idea. I have seen the factory plastic stock it's ok, the Hogue stock is nice comes in a variety of finish's. One question I have heard the Hogue kind of has a tacky feel to it? But with Hogue stock plus a lighter scope used together is a great idea. That would get the weight down to a more manageable that I could handle thanks for the suggestion! This is a great forum always some helpful thoughts.
