continuing with mini 14 discussion.... Going to buy a new stock mini 14 ranch model blued with tapered barrel. Have a leupold VX-2 3-9X/40mm scope that the ruger medium or high factory supplied scope rings will fit, according to ruger customer service(if anyone has same scope and could chime in which size fit best for clearance fit, etc, that would be great).

Will be shooting primarily in local gun clubs bi-annual .223 competitions and wanted a muzzle brake for reduced recoil. (I do not, nor ever want, to buy a tactical type .223 so all you AR lovers, take it to another thread). NO mini 14- vs. AR debates, thank you!!!!! And yes, I know you will likely get better accuracy with a bolt action .2223, i.e e savage model 25. (I own a savage model 110 bolt action 30-06 and can attest to the accuracy) The gun will be new in 2012 and wanted to see the best "bang for the buck" place/brands for aftermarket parts and/or specific accessories with makes and models as follows: muzzle break, accu strut iif even needed for 100 or under shooting (shooting up to 100 yards in comps.. Is it worth it for the small amount of added accuracy), bi pod. I'd like to be able to take scope off and shoot iron sights so don't want to remove factory front iron sights.

I don't know about the muzzle brake but the scope fits fine with the included rings. Here's mine with a VX2 3-9x40.

I am trying a mo-rod on it but am not convinced its made any real significant difference in accuracy. It does make a difference in how quickly the barrel cools down though so that alone makes me happy with it.

P.S. you can get some Wilson blue 1911 shok buffers for a few bucks and put one in the rear (receiver end of recoil spring guide rod) and your scope will thank you. The Wilson shok buffs fit perfectly and are not thick enough to interfere with function at all.

In California any device that has the effect of minimizing muzzle flash is a "flash suppressor" and renders the rifle into an "assault rifle" unless the magazine release is modified such that it cannot be removed without a tool. This has the effect of essentially making compensators illegal here in Socialist-occupied California.

The UN treaty will not pass the Senate. Relax.

In California these fools just keep electing Democrats. The result is fouled up gun laws, a broke State, a terrible business climate, and Governor Moonbeam. Things could be worse but offhand I cannot see how.
