There's all kinds of topics on them. Do a search or look in the Ruger semi auto rifle on this site.

Love mine, I've had it for a few years and recently put some money into it by buying a new trigger and some other odds and ends. These improvements have made me appreciate it even more.

I have had mine for about 4 weeks now. Great rifle. I put a RRA NM two stage trigger, the factory trigger sucked.
A couple of quirks I have found. If you are going to change out the grip I needed a spacer between the allen bolt and the grip, which I did not need for my other AR's. There is a carrier tilt issue, which is common in all gas piston AR's
(i bought anti tilt buffer from Heavy buffer)

Heavy Buffers | Products

When changing my trigger group I noticed that the factory hammer and trigger pins were very loose when removing. and the enlarged pins that came with the RRA trigger were also too loose. I have ordered an KNS anti roll hammer and trigger pin set

Hammer Trigger Pin 2nd Generation 2nd Modification Non Rotating AR-15 Small Pin .154 SS

I have the E variation which was cheaper, but you lose some bells and whistles like the full rails, and chrome bolt. Over all It is an accurate weapon and has not had any real issues with about 300 rounds through it..

Have had mine for just about 2 years; I was one of the first buyers. Runs cool and slightly heavier than a gas impingement gun, but that's the price you pay. I replaced the trigger with an AR Gold; about the only component that needs upgrading. I highly recommend the AR specific scopes from Nikon and Leopold and their new mounts. I am just now replacing my riser and rings with Leupold's new IER mount.

Only downside other than the trigger is that I have been unable to buy spare parts from Ruger so far. Would like to have spare firing pin, cotter pins for the bolt/bolt carrier assembly, extractor/ejector, etc. Ruger is putting all their capacity into rifles, but they told me that spares should be available shortly from the website (right now you have to talk to an actual person in customer support).

My rifle like many does NOT like WOLF ammunition because of the steel case, but it extracts the new Hornady Steel Match just fine. WOLF ammo stays in the chamber and the ejector just rips off a piece of the base and I have to tap it out with a cleaning rod. I simply gave all of it away and don't buy any more.

I bought the only model they had at the time but there are some new models available now that are less expensive. $2,000 is a lot for a rifle, but there's nothing it needs except a new trigger; you won't spend a lot of money "upgrading" it.

It's a disease. You are right, trigger and scope are the only things you really need for the 556. I have the Nikon M223 on mine and love it, but prefer the Burris QD mount. Midway has many AR parts.

I've only had my FB model since last October. Haven't had much chance to get out with it, but the 200 rounds so far have been great. The rifle stays cool and the bolt/carrier area amazingly clean. The gas piston assembly cleans easily, too.

It is very accurate, but it does have a heavy trigger. Not sure why Ruger did it that way. The FB model is also pretty nose heavy for an AR, but you get used to it quickly. I think I'll probably end up looking at an aftermarket trigger for this thing.

Overall, I don't see you you could go wrong with an SR556. Spendy, buy worth it.

I have the SR556FB. I got it May 2011 and its great. I haven't had a problem with it yet. I have had about 700 rounds through it. I have an eotech with a magnifier and the itac defense vertical foregrip/light/laser combo.

It is a little front heavy but its nice because it really reduces the recoil.
