Question Scope for SR556 ?

I'm looking to add a scope on my SR556. I mainly target shoot this gun. What kind of scopes would you recommend for this gun? Pics would be helpful also. I want something that looks good with this gun.

You might want to consider a red dot sight, unless you will be shooting at targets over 100 yards in distance.

I noticed most people are installing small 4x scopes on their AR. I don't really know to much about scopes but wouldn't a bigger and more powerful scope be better? What is the advantage of a red dot sight over a regular cross hairs?

Normally the .223 Remington is not the most effective round at ranges best suited for a powerful scope. For best results at those ranges (say over 200 yards) you would want a .308 Winchester, or a .300 WM. For closer ranges a 1-4X red dot.

I Have an Aimpoint with a 3x magnifier. Both are quick disconnect so I can use iron sights.

JeffWA, That looks cool. So the front one is a regular sight scope and the back one is your 3x magnifier? To my understanding you went with this set-up so you can take the magnifier off if you want to use the sight scope only for close range?

I would do the same thing Jeff did if I could afford it. I bought a 3x optic sight with an illuminated reticle for mine. Good option for all around shooting

Has anyone used the Barska scopes? I know they are cheap scopes but if they work that ok with me.

Here is a link of a scope I was looking at...

BillStaf will become famous soon enough
Ultra7350,

I have the Barska Electro mounted on my SR556. Here is a photo.

The scope riser is too long. I'll putting a 3" long X 1" high riser on soon. Gotta get through Xmas first.

I had this scope on another AR15 and liked it.

BillStaf,
Does the scope sits to low on the gun for you? Is that the reason you went with a riser? I seen some guns with a scope on the grap handle on top. That looks like the scope would be to high on the gun.

Leupold AR Scopes

Had anybody looked in the Leupold AR scopes? Specifically the 3-9x40 T2 Mil Dot. This one is running at $349 and wanted to see if anybody had any thought on it.

I just snagged up a Nikon M-223 3-12x42SF BDC.

Tried using the red-dot/3x mag hog hunting this weekend and it just didn't cut it. It's great for anything sub 100 yards but anything over 100 yards in low light or night it doesn't get it.
