I also had my trigger spring replaced, so I wouldn't have to use both hands to fire it! Ya know this is the fourth (of four) AR's I've had, and this is the only one I keep going over and opening the carrying case and taking it out and looking at it! I spent 20 years in the Army, and a rifle is a rifle - except this one. To me, it simply says "I am something special."

I do have a query and I'm too new to be able to find threads, so apologies in advance; I am looking for someone who may have experience with a Leatherwood ART scope, preferably 3X9 42.

I had big plans for the range today - Oh well, maybe Monday. I am sitll trying to get to an initial firing.

They are from magpul. Thanks for the props. You should see it with the EoTech XPS sight. So pretty it could be art.

Made it to the range yesterday (finally) and put 70 rounds down range. It was a little off zero, but still well on target for a Silhouette. Firing on a hundred yard target - iron sights, 68 year old eyes. Next time will go to the 25 yard targets and try again - also have ordered an optic - and really don't care for iron sights - but if the optic fails, I suppose they should get the aim in the ballpark.

The real report here is about the PWS EBT 416 buffer tube. There is absolutely nothing to report. It worked flawlessly with no sign of BCG drop. For those not familiar, it replaces the stock buffer tube, has a tang on the bottom of it that extends into the lower far enough for the BCG to rest on it. When the weapon (sorry I was trained not to call anything of this configuration a gun) is fired there is nothing for the BCG to do but go straight back. The new buffer tube is attached without a castle nut (it's great). If you order one remember the Ruger is Mil-Spec, so order the correct size. I did read where someone was having trouble getting it to thread in - and there's only one reason for that - wrong tube.

Remember I bought this piece used with bad tilt wear, so I never fired it until I changed the tube, so I have no "before and after" recoil feel, but I will say the bumper in the new tube sure made a smooth operating system. Using Magpul 20 and 30 rounders, firing was uneventful.

Wasn't planning to write a book, but after firing 70 rounds and pulling it down for cleaning, it's hard to believe anyone would think the piston should 2-3000 rounds before cleaning. I bought the unit from a 10 year Marine, so I assume the piston was clean when I got it, the remainder of weapon was flawless.

One final note - we fired a mix of Privi Partisan, Israel Military Industries, and Armscore ammunition in both the Ruger, and my Red Jacket DI - and neither missed a beat at any time. Phew!

The PWS tube is a fantastic product. But you are a a little confused on Mil-spec and commercial tubes.

All AR lowers are threaded the same, some company's chose to use the cheaper to produce commercial tubes. But a commercial tube can be used on any AR and a Mil-spec tube can be used on any AR.

The OD of the tubes is different so you must use a commercial tube with a commercial sized stock, and a mil-spec tube with a mil-spec sized stock.

Hopes this clears it up a little bit.

Well, sarge, PWS gives the same warning as I did. "PWS Enhanced Buffer Tube - Billet Machined 416 model The PWS Enhanced Buffer Tube is the first major upgrade and improvement to the buffer tube in years. This one piece buffer tube is machined from a solid billet of 7075 aluminum in order to gain lightweight, strength and reliability. This billet machined version of the PWS Enhanced Buffer Tube is also referred to as the 416 model since it was designed to work with the HK 416 series rifles, but it will work with any mil-spec AR-15 lower receiver." If I'm in error, sorry about that - obviously there must be a need for a course correction from the source. All I am sure about is that I ordered the Mil-Spec tube and it fit my Ruger perfectly.

Has anyone else had difficulty adjusting the rear Troy sight? If I didn't know better, I would say the thing was sealed with lock-tight.

Hello - apologies if this is redundant, however, I have looked everywhere: Does anyone know the maximum effective range for the 556? Thanks

Well, the MER of the M16A1 rifle is/was 462 meters. I would imagine that the SR556 is the same.

One interesting question would be whether one could best 462 meters with an SR556 and an EOTech red-dot sight!

Question 556 8" groups at 50yds???

So my new 556 can't do any better than 8" groups at even 50yds with iron sights or a good scope. What the heck?! Its going back to Ruger tomorrow. Any ideas out there? Its not shooter error, I know that. All I can think of is a bent barrel?
