Thumbs up Delta Ring

I sent the Ruger CEO an idea. I suggested that Ruger should make a threaded delta ring from mild steel or aluminum.
Have you ever tried to remove or tighten your AR-556 delta ring, to no avail? The reason it does this is because the ring is made from polymer and it FLEXES, EGGS, GETS OBLONG! Now, if it were mild steel or aluminum, this wouldn't happen.
If Ruger were to make a new threaded delta ring from mild steel or aluminum, would you buy one? I would!

I am really surprised they don't offer an aluminum version on the ShopRuger.com they carry allot of similar AR accessories. Metal ones are not very expensive on the accessories sites.

Seems like a reasonable suggestion.

I would be interested, but have had zero problems with the stock ring.

Same here. The one it came with works just fine.

I can understand your point of view. But, why do we accessorize our AR's? This is just an accessory.
BTW, a friend of mine, and I, are in the process of making one from mild steel and aluminum.

I like the idea and would buy one. I read up on the Delta ring before I bought mine and put some anti seize on it from day one and never have a problem with it. I do like your thought process brother!

Thanks for the support.
I too put anti-seize on the delta ring threads from the get go. It does seem to help, but I would prefer some type of steel or at least aluminum helping to keep things intact.

Here's my question.

Normal maintenance doesn't really require the removal of the hand guards right? So why take them off unless you're going replace them?

IMO, it's kind of like an accessory you add to your AR. Do you really need it? Yes and no. But, to some, like me, I want to be able to remove the delta ring with out having to fight with it, use a strap wrench, use a pair of channel locks, etc. Yes, adding a lubricant or grease/oil to the delta ring threads will help.
The polymer ring is thin and can very easily be distorted (flex, oblong, egg shape, etc.) when pressure (tightening or loosening) is applied to it. That is why, IMHO, think it should be made from mild steel, or better yet, aluminum.
